Your suggestions for finding a physician for my 80 year old mom - My mom's physician recently left private practice to work as a medical director at Hospice of NWO. Does anyone have any suggestions for a primary care physician who is good with senior citizens? A physician practicing in the south end, Maumee or Perrysburg would be ideal. Any ideas Toledo Talkers?

Didn't the doctor recommend someone to his patients? Usually they do...

You might want to contact the Medical Hospital (at the new Health Sciences Campus of UT) - they have some doctors who specialize in geriatrics. Be sure to check with her insurance coverage to see is she has an open choice or if she has to stay within a network.

The other thing to consider is asking some of her friends - who they use and if they're happy with the doctor. Sometimes a referral from an existing patient will get you in the door if the doctor isn't accepting new patients.

Good luck!

I hear very good things about Dr. Marshall (the young one) in Rossford if that's not too far away. (the older one is good too)

Thanks for the suggestions about Drs. Ashton and Marshall. I'll pass those names on.

The doctor did rec'd someone from MUO, but the practice is soooooo big that each appointment that she has had has been rescheduled repeatedly. When she has gone to the appointment, the physician seems competent but very hurried.

You should probably start looking pretty soon. Don't count on finding a doctor and being able to see them on short-term notice. It's unfortunate, but the government reimburses for Medicare patients at a very low rate leading many physicians to not accept new patients. The ones that do will make up the difference with volume meaning less time with their patients. Good luck with the search.
