"Children who watch more than two hours of television a night seem to be at higher risk of becoming smokers or being fat, out of shape or having high cholesterol as adults."

"Medicare now recognizes obesity as an illness, a change in policy that may allow millions of overweight Americans to make medical claims for treatments such as stomach surgery and diet programs. Treating obesity-related illnesses results in billions of dollars in health care costs." (For obesity-related illnesses, the public pays about $39 billion a year - or about $175 per person.)
