Noe fires back - The Toledo Free Press reports that Tom Noe is angry, and feels that the Blade story is a "malicious personal attack."
If nothing else, TFP is giving Toledo another voice to counteract the Blade. Very interesting reading.

Thank God for The Toledo Free Press.
I was glad to see that Tom Noe is NOT letting "The Blah" get away with what USED to pass for journalism in Toledo (before The Toledo Free Press, that is).
Give 'em Hell Tom!
At least, with The Toledo Free Press, you get a fair shot at an accurate story being told.
That EVER happening anymore, with the blah, is unhinkable...
It’s also good to see that the size of the The Toledo Free Press is increasing with subsequent edition.
Now if we could only get them to format the paper so that Adobe would page through it in order...
So much for the BLOCKhead’s delusions passing for news in Toledo much longer.
Hint to The Toledo Free Press:
Be prepared to "duck & cover." You are now a threat to the “nitwit from Philly's” legendary (in what’s left of his own tiny, tiny little mind) "control & influence" that used to work for him, here in Toledo.
If J.R.B. actually figures out what has happened, he will surely begin throwing tantrums, start pulling (politicians, and a certain political party's) strings. And, resurrecting those "unfounded" (as in never investigated adequately, herefore unproven) dirty tricks he's so famous for, from his bag of tricks...
Ahh, the good old days when his word was law :-)
NOT!
I’ll be eagerly awaiting the other side, the whole and REAL side of the blah’s fictional piece (I won’t elaborate any further on "piece of what”) on Mr. Noe’s in print rebuttal, hoping the appropriate talk radio shows pick up on it too.

What a breath of fresh air to have the TFP now.
I have been thinking about the difference between the Blade and the person they're trying to destroy because he is a Republican. One of them is making millions of dollars for the state. The other is costing the state who knows how much on investigations and audits while at the same time increasing the security risk of the assets and its manager (which will no doubt translate into more expense at some point).
So here we have a microcosm of the history and make up of Northwest Ohio: republicans create wealth, the Blade creates nothing but expense.
You know, in another thread there was a rather weak attempt at casting the investment in Noe as "unethical". When you consider the costs to the taxpayer that the Blade will incur on this, it is somewhat ironic who is being called unethical. On the one hand, taxpayer money is used for an investment that brings handsome returns, on the other it is used to by one politcal party to attack another. I'm not sure I would call the latter ethical.

In the Blade's defense, I think that they have chased quite a few Democrats along the way, as well.
They have written endless stories on Ray Kest, former County Treasurer and mayoral candidate. While one might argue that this was motivated by the mayor's race, the stories continued long after the race, and have even been written when the guy left the Treasurer's office. They will probably hurl invective at him as he is being buried:
"Look, he's got county money in his casket!!!"
I think it is more accurate to say that the Blade and JRB aim their talons at those who don't have the Block stamp of approval. They have been generally kind to Sarantou and Ludeman over the years, both of whom are Republicans.

historymike,
You raised three good points.
I wonder though who JRB will "anoint" from the Republican side, for the next mayoral primary, should Rob & George both seek the position, or will he again push another Dem. with "no comment/endorsement" for any/either on the Republican side?
As for Kest, JRB either smelled blood in the water and joined in the feeding frenzy, or helped to take down a member of the "out of favor" democratic faction.

babbleman,
Right on!
When I used M$ Word, spell check questioned my attempt to put JRB and the word "ethical" in the same sentence. The suggested replacement was unethical :-)
I know it was irrational, but I had to try it (once)...
The Devil made me say that ;-)

Thank God for The Blade. Editors have a responsibility to take government to task, bringing corruption to the public's attention. I, for one, had no idea that my tax dollars were given to a man convicted of tax fraud and money laundering, who also somehow "lost" almost a $1 million in state money. If Noe knew that the man was a convicted criminal, then he had no business giving him our tax money. If Noe didn't know the man was a crook, the shame on Tom for failing to execute due diligence with a proper background check.
Either way, Noe gave Ohio tax dollars to a convicted criminal, who "lost" most of it. And people have the chutzpah to try to blame The Blade? Only a moron would believe that. That makes about the same sense as blaming The Blade for the Japanese attack on Pear Harbor - just because they reported it!

So now that Noe is under federal investigation, what does that say about Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates?

BTW, ErieVoices, you have a nice blog. More Noe analysis at EV.

Thanks JR. I like to spank the local politicos - and since we only have the Sandusky Register in Erie County I live in a target rich environment.

Did Toledo Free Press ask Tom Noe, just where those 121 'missing' coins are? I wonder if the wonderful Gov. Taft is just a bit curious, himself? Toledo Free Press, maybe? related to that other conservative outlet, Free Republic. In that case Free Press readers may become the Toledo version of FReepers.
