Some Detroit news - "Gannett Co. has agreed to take over the Detroit Free Press from Knight Ridder Inc., while MediaNews Group Inc. will take ownership of The Detroit News from Gannett. One scenario may have the Detroit News adopt a tabloid format. Hendrix, Kilpatrick face off in November. Incumbent Detroit mayor ready for a tough battle as opponent tops primary by wide margin. Matt Millen's future as president of the Detroit Lions is secure for at least another five years."

Comments ...

Before the internet, I used to read the Detroit papers more often as to have a balance with the Toledo Blade. Now I have to admit I haven't followed either one of them very much as of late. I did find the "trade" of those papers and several others interesting though as well as the change to both being a morning format.

Just more indication that newspapers are going the way of the dodo.

Can't say they'll be missed.

"Knight Ridder Inc. will receive $262 million for selling the Detroit Free Press to Gannett Co. It was announced Wednesday that MediaNews Group Inc. had assumed ownership of The Detroit News from Gannett. The Detroit newspapers say they will compete head-to-head each weekday and Saturday as morning dailies beginning in early 2006. The Free Press will alone publish a Sunday newspaper instead of the current joint paper."
