TARTA Levy is pulled from the ballot - What is your take on this newsbit? I find it very odd that a levy-supported public service agency missed the deadline. With the last statement about needing to boost $2.5 million and now by missing the deadline do they need the money after all?

TARTA won’t seek levy renewal until ’07
The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority has postponed its efforts to renew an operating levy this year and instead plans to go to voters in 2007, when the levy expires.
TARTA tried to get the levy renewal on this fall’s ballot but missed the filing deadline, which was Thursday.
Jim Gee, TARTA general manager, said in a news release yesterday, “Unfortunately, TARTA missed the chance to renew its operating levy in 2006. We appreciate the widespread support we have received for the levy throughout Lucas and Wood counties, and we plan to be on the ballot in November, 2007.”
The transit authority earlier announced plans to replace one of its two operating levies a year before it expires.
In May, TARTA’s board of directors voted to place a renewal of the 1.75-mill levy on the Nov. 7 ballot in hopes of boosting revenue by an estimated $2.5 million next year. The levy was approved by voters in 1997.

Did they release the results of their survey in Perrysburg?

Maggie, isn't the survey in Perrysburg about how to improve the service? I would hardly think it played a role in missing the deadline, but what are your thoughts?

I agree, I don't think that the Perrysburg survey had anything to do with it. From the articles that I have read, it sounds like TARTA is working hard to improve the Perrysburg bus service. I think that most Perrysburg residents are smart enough to understand that TARTA provides a necessary service that needs to be continued.
The way that I read the article, it sounds like there was a clerical error. At least they owned up to it.

HHT - was just curious about their survey - that's all...didn't see that if had been completed and released...
I don't know even know if they were considering having their levy on the ballot in Wood County...

curious about what others think......do you think this really was a matter of human error? could it have been they realized the levy would be one of many on this ballot and a yes vote would be tough to get?
just because they missed the deadline doesn't mean there was a clerical or human error. the above article doesn't indicate it necessarily, but who knows?
how much tarta service is outside of lucas county?

Maggie, I believe it was a renewal for 1.75 mil which applies to all the cities that are receiving transit service. As far as the survey, I think any surveys are insufficient because it doesn't measure of what is needing to be improved.

If the article states that the board voted in May to put the levy on the ballot in November to receive an additional $2.5 million you would think they are serious for whatever reasons. So in my opinion, I think it's a human error on TARTA part based on the information the article provided.
According to the TARTA website TARTA goes to Perrysburg and Rossford which they are in Wood County.

Agreed - and I'd love to see such surveys also ask what people would be willing to pay for various improvements, too.
I'd love to have cushy seats, a tv in the back of the seat in front of me, headphones to go with the tv so it doesn't disturb anyone, perhaps a massage therapist who could give mini-massages while we travel - that'd sure be nice...but at what cost and would bus patrons be willing to pay for it...

HolyHolyToledo...partial topic is in BOLD giving a "SHOUTING" affect...making me a "HEADACHE"...
Gotcha back...I said with a smile :)...
With that...I would love to see efficient city transportation...what is currently offerred in Toledo does not work for me...
