Seniors! Make sure to apply for the state's Homestead Exemption Program! - I know that this has been in the news, but I thought that it needed to be further disseminated. Please check this story and see if you or one of your relatives is eligible.

Apparently, those who are "permanently disabled" are eligible, even if they are not a senior citizen.

Again, the the link to the story.

It worked for me. I'm permanently disabled. I applied for homestead reduction and now I'm paying about 21% of my old property taxes. It amounts to just paying the specials. I only get my SSA and no other income.
If you have alternate income besides SSA, then it will be different.
It's based on income, savings and other stuff.
My Uncle only has about 10% or less coming off his taxes but he is retired and has a good pension plan. Anything less is good.
It's still worth the time to apply for it.

Is the following new information for you?

"The program previously had income restrictions on eligibility. Changes to the law are expected to increase the number of Ohioans who qualify from 220,000 to 775,000, saving the average eligible Ohioan about $400."

Just another tax break for the elderly at the expense of the youth.

'Me' generation indeed.
