I like Jack - I like several things about Mayor Ford. I admire his courage to stand by his convictions, even if I don't agree with some of them. I like his loyalty, I have seen it, I know that will be a bone of contention for some. I like his passion, yes I said it, PASSION for social justice. You can be passionate without raising your voice and causing a scene. I like his sense of humor, I've seen that too - pretty funny really. I like his vision to move the city of Toledo in a new direction with emphasis on the Arts, which by the way are for everyone to enjoy, not just the big money contributors which somehow people associate with it. I began taking my children to the Toledo Museaum of Arts when they were in strollers, I thought the experience would stimulate their little baby brains and I believe it did. I admire his reaching out to our youth with his entrepenure program, but all most people could say was that it was geared toward the minorities, give me a break. I have heard the lawnmowers were free, wrong. And if they were, which they weren't, so what, you were never given a break at sometime in your life? Sure you were, whether it was getting a job because of someone you knew or just dumb luck. I was present when the Mayor formally announced his candacy and I wrote down his promises. I did so because I wanted to see if he was a man of his word, and so far, I see that he has kept them. Not just political "elect me" babble, he has actually been doing what he said he would do. This too will be argued with, I'm sure, but it's true.

So who wrote this original post?
Is that you, Jay?
Or is it Jeff Lowenstein?
Maybe Mary Chris?
Nice try.

Isn't the Woodlands Consulting manager the new County appointment to the LCIC? Think he's tied to the Ford/Gerken/A-team in some way??? Maybe someone should check out the campaign contributions.

Hold me back.......
Our illustrious Mayor Jack (I need Ritalin to keep me awake more than five minutes) Ford had his own agenda (not too sure what it was) when it came to our "Elegant City."
Have you seen how elegant our expressways and roadways look as you are driving down them? Don't have a flat or run out of gas as there is sooooooooo much debris you could probably create other major problems with your vehicle.
If his wonderful put our youth to work program is working so well -- why can't I see over the tall weeds that are blocking every intersection?
Ok....sorry -- just a pet peeve of mine.

The 724 phone exchange is the Block err.... Buckeye Cablesystem's exchange.
Could this be a "Block" front organization???
Just wondering out loud again... :-)

A list for my favorite swantuckian...
TOPIC: Top 10 Reasons Why Jack Ford is the Biggest Hypocrite
1. He jammed the smoking ban down our throats when he himself has been seen in the smoking section of many bars and restaurants in Sylvania and Maumee smoking his head off.
2. He pushed to continue ex-mayor Carty Finkbeiner and JRB's (John Robinson Block, Publisher of The Blade) precious handgun ban and passed laws weakening conceal carry laws in Toledo yet he has armed security with him whenever he's in public.
3. He promotes diversity yet he only favors African Americans (e.g. Jimmy Jackson).
4. He talks about helping the local economy yet he flies out of Detroit whenever possible and he prefers to hire Detroit-based companies for city contracts over local companies.
5. He claims to be tough on crime yet crime is out of control in Toledo and he’s done nothing about it.
6. He says that Toledo is broke and needs tax hikes or service cutbacks yet he gives away a building (that the taxpayers invested million into) and $300,000 to a friend (refer to #3).
7. He campaigned on improving the local economy yet he has done nothing.
8. He promised in his campaign that he would never give tax breaks to companies that treat their retirees poorly yet he gives tax breaks to Pilkington, a company that screwed its retirees over.
9. He says that he wants to fix Toledo’s decaying infrastructure yet he’s done nothing about it.
10. He says that he wants to diversify and economy and move Toledo away from blue-collar industries yet he’s done nothing about it and went out of his way to give more tax breaks to Daimler Chrysler.

I am not Jay, Jeff or Mary Chris. Actually, I find that to be pretty funny. And, the ending sentence, "Nice try" is probably the most funny. I am your average Joe Citizen who found this site and thought it would be both informative and insightful into what was on the minds of fellow Toledo citizens and others. My goodness, such an uproar. I believe your facts are wrong regarding the Mayor smoking his head off, are you kidding me? During the Ford Administration, there have been many improvements to the cities infrastructure...where have you been? Look around you, my friend. I took my mother, who is well into her 70's down to Adams Street and the surrounding area and she ws absolutly amazed by what she saw. What had been a decaying and deglected area has been revitalized. She grew up in the area during the 1930's and 1940's and it made her most happy to see the small businesses, nicely paved roads and neighborhoods being beautified. Crime is not out of control, either. Have you ever attended a block watch meeting? Perhaps you should, you'd be surprised by the actual statistics. Also, the Mayor isn't moving away from Blue Collar industry, but you have to enhance the technologies. With technology comes innovation and creation. It's about the big picture, not just one piece of it. As far as the mayor flying out of Detoit, think about that for a moment. Is it cheaper, I don't know - maybe. Let's say it is and if it is and he chose to fly out of Toledo and it was more expensive, that would be the issue. Bet you a dime to a dollar the vehicle used to drive up to the airport was fueled up in Toledo and more than likely the Mayor ate at a local dinner before leaving. As far as the Jimmy Jackson issue, what I see is a man who has chosen to contribute to the community he came from and I belive his partner is also a local born person as well. Let's keep something in mind here...Can you imagine running for office and on the big Primary day your country is attacked? Not to mention the downward economic turn the entire country felt. The city has to tighten it's belt, the same as you and I. In closing, look at all the road improvements ongoing presently. Aside from the initial complaint that our roads were deplorable, now the complaint is what a mess it is while they are being fixed. So what? Go around it, leave a little earlier to get to your destination. Also, when are we going to move away from this issue that the Mayor favors minorities? That is such a stereotypical remark I keep seeing over and over again. Also, still waiting for the definition of what those persons define as a minority.........
