Ford/Carty - I questioned before whether or not the Nitro was part of the $1 Billion of projects "in the pipeline" that Ford was referring to in the campaign. What do you think of this?
I also noticed that http://www.toledoworks.org/ is offline. Isn't this ironic?
Also, do you think that Carty had a heads up on the UT/MUO merger, since he talked about metaphorically linking the two? (...Work with the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Medical University of Ohio and Owens Community College to develop a “technology corridor,” creating the jobs of the future.)

It's possible Ford did know about the new vehicle. I doubt being able to go public with it would have saved him in the election. The people of this city have to realize that Jeep and any future expansion from Daimler-Chrysler is just a stopgap. It's a lease extension to an apartment in a condemned building. Major manufacturing has a very limited future in Toledo and we're running out of time in pursuing a new direction.
Carty most likely did have forewarning about the merger. UT's President Johnson mentioned that he did speak to a panel of "civic leaders" about it before putting the proposal to a vote on campus.

But we here in Toledo MUST cling to the old ways. We need organized labor to keep making unreasonable demands. We need Washington representation who wants to struggle against globalization. We need low-skilled jobs in a high tech world. How else would we maintain our reputation?
