Moving Young Democrats Forward Together - - Meeting Notice - The future of our party and this community rests in the hands of a new generation of leaders. In an effort to get young Democrats and progressives of all stripes working together to help Lucas County, I'm helping organize a Democratic Unity Town Hall Meeting for all good Dems under age 35. Here are the details:

WHO: Any Lucas County Democrat or Progressive Under Age 35
WHAT: Democratic Unity Town Hall Meeting
WHERE:University of Toledo Student Union Room 2561
WHEN: Wednesday, January 18th, 7PM
WHY: Because the future is in our hands

I'm honored to have both the UT College Democrats and the Lucas County Party Young Democrats cosponsor this event with me. Other young Democratic leaders are getting involved too. If you're interested, please try and join us.

Comments ...

Subcomandante Bob got spammail from Ben Konop today about this.

Subcomandante Bob is over 35, has been kicked out of every political function he's ever hung around (mostly for booze-related incidents), and sometimes shouts things like "VIVA LA REVOLUCION" at inappropriate times, like prayers.

Thus, Ben's event is made for Subcomandante Bob.

Better hide the whiskey and those little cocktail hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, because party crashin' is a happenin' next Wednesday.

Subcomandante,
As a fan of yours, I would be honored if you stop by. I will make an exception to the "under 35" rule for you.

I'm not going to comment on the additional favoritism on top of the age discrimination...

Ben, I think this should be left to the professionals.

Good luck with your life, but I do not encourage "opprotunists".

Contact me when someone credible comes forward, crybaby.

Brian, you need to be more original. "Crybaby" and "Opportunist"...very pedestrian.
I would like to donate a thesaurus to your cause. May I humbly suggset the next time you post about me that you call me a "charlatan" or maybe a "rogue". Spice things up a bit...and stop by the meeting if you are in the neighborhood.
Best regards, Ben

Ben...will you guys stop with this "Progressive" bullcrap?

The word is LIBERALS. You and every other liberal know full well that America has finally caught on to the dangers of liberalism in our country, so you thought you could just change the title to "progressives" and it would fool people.

You and your group of peacenik hippie friends will have a good time at your liberal meeting, singing Kumbaya hand-in-hand with the terrorists you don't want us spying on, then singing it in Spanish with the illegal immigrants you want to welcome with open arms and sloppy kisses.

You're a threat to America, liberal.

OMG! They are going to sing Kumbaya?

Now I'm really upset that I'm being discriminated against for being too old.

While I *could* show up, frankly the Dems are just the lesser of the two-party evil. And the Greens are right behind the Dems.

If you want to do something useful, remove the ballot access restriction laws so we can have some other parties in this state and nation. That way we can actually have some sort of moderate party in charge and let the left and right wing nut jobs hang out on the fringe where they belong. And we won't have to hear this RINO and DINO BS as well.

I agree with the last poster...there is a lot of needles partisan bickering between the two parties. However, I think you should consider stopping by the meeting as it would be interesting and productive to add your perspective to the discussion. And since you cared enough to write a post on the subject, I imagine you care about the future of our community as well. This is really what the meeting is all about.
Feel free to email me at ben@benkonop.com if you want to discuss this further.
Best regards, Ben

Ben,

Trust me, your patronizing me is just another example of your juvenile ignorance.

As the saying goes, "You can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig".

One more thing, Ben, seeing you're kissing the ass of the posters here under the guise of "caring", I've googled you and have addressed you, and you have yet to stand up and hold yourself accountable. You'll make a fine politican, you just won't get my vote.

"Opprotunist" is an appropiate title for you.

AC,

If the "A" team and their cronies (coughBencough) had their way, it wouldn't matter if you didn't live in Lucas County OR Toledo.

Just walk up to the polling table, pick a name and take a card. See how easy it is?

Easy as missing the "R" in "appropriate"!

Well, I'm anxiously awaiting Ben's allegedly conjured up "attack dog" brian_s who convienently applied for "his" account the day after I called Ben to task over his whining.

Odd how "he" disappeared after defending Ben's honor. lol

Juvenile? You betcha!

Ben--

Are you aware of the 'examples'of politicos that the under-35 crowd have been watching in the past few months?

With the shenanigans of Carty, McCloskey, Shultz, Moltalvo, Lichtenwald, and Sobczak fresh in their memory, why would these young adults want to become involved in politics?

Dave Schulz, Bob Vasquez, and Karen Shanahan were as clean as a whistle and were denied a spot on Toledo City Council. Tell me, Ben, how do you suppose these fine folks feel about politics these days?

I think we need a citizen reporter at this meeting.

I truly enjoy witnessing the internal dialogue that Brian in Florida has with himself. "No one responds to my spite filled rant...well than I'll respond...and then I better respond to myself again!"

It also appears Brian has taken a bit of my suggestion, opened a thesaurus, and found "juvenile" as his new attack word. Once again Brian, I don't think that quite reflects the negativity you wish you to express towards me. How about using "callow" next time?

On a more serious note, as a big believer in the importance of blogging and internet news, I would welcome a citizen reporter at the meeting. Is anybody interested in blogging it?

And Limedrops911, I agree with your astute observation that right now the current climate in Toledo politics is neither inspiring nor welcoming towards young people. This is something that I intend to help change...starting with the meeting next week.
