$72,000 in bonuses. What budget problems? - We are told daily that all areas of government are having budget concerns, but that doesn't stop Clerk of Courts Theresa Gabriel from handing out bonuses to staffers in her second day on the job. Not everyone agrees with this: The bonuses send "the wrong message to other departments," Councilman Peter Gerken said. "Somebody’s made the decision over there to let the money flow over the boundaries even that were set by the collective bargaining agreement. With the budget problem we’re looking at now, every $75,000 counts."
