Kaiser for political office? - OK - just listened to some guy named Kaiser from Fremont that's running for office (state rep, I think). He made a statement that all gays should be put on trial for violating the book of Leviticus, and if found guilty should receive capital punishment. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Does this bother anyone but me? It's scary to think there is a would-be politician out there that's willing to spout this garbage. And scarier to think that there are people that will vote for him!

This kook says he would not be opposed to legislation making homosexuality a felony punishable by death.

I think it's time to introduce legislation that makes being Republican, or an evangelical Christian, or hating homosexuals a capital felony.

all gays should be put on trial for violating the book of Leviticus, and if found guilty should receive capital punishment.

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Fine. Someone treat this asshole to a nice seafood dinner at Red Lobster. Some nice tasty shrimp, mussels, and of course lobster. Then, since he's violated Leviticus, we can treat him to the electric chair, and thus eliminate the problem entirely. As a bonus, we won't even have to worry about a last meal, because he just ate.

Ok, does it matter which party this guy belongs to? He's a nut.
I'm not for speech control at all - but isn't advocating this kind of treatment for gay's illegal? I thought we had a law about hate crimes and speech intended to incite violence was included.
And stop party bashing. You're at it so hot and heavy that you tripped yourself up.

I saw this joker on the local news last night. At the time, I thought it was pretty funny. I mean this guy just looks crazy. Look into his eyes when he speaks. Nothing seems to be going on in there. Let him be the voice of the ant-gay, and anti-whatever else extremist movement. He lends no credibility to his cause.

Actually it is probably a good thing that he brought this attention to himself. Congrats Merril. You just put yourself on every suspect list for hate crimes committed in this area. And for good reason.

I agree Katie, that he is probably pushing the envelope on free speech. Look at it this way. Any moron who would be influenced by this man (and I use the term 'man' loosely) is already dangerously ignorant.

Alas, here's yet another indicator that it might well be a good idea for moral, socially-liberal folk to get the hell out of Ohio. This guy is just UNREAL!

Merrill Keiser, Jr. : allegedly quoted 'wouldn't be against making homosexuality a crime punishable by the death penalty'

Summary of various direct links (thanks to previous folks getting this started):

http://www.wtol.com/Global/story.asp?S=4590031
http://howardempowered.blogspot.com/2006/02/sherrod-browns-democratic-primary.html
http://www.buckeyesenateblog.com/2006/02/lets_just_say.html
http://www.buckeyesenateblog.com/Keiser1.jpg

He's made more outrageous statements like that. For examples: the teaching of evolution goes against individual rights (or something like that); the Bible should be taught and followed in schools and government; Muslim opponents should be converted to Christianity; etc.

Keiser shows that when we grow 'em in Ohio, we grow 'em dumb and mean. This God-addled sociopath should stick to riding his truck across Ohio, preaching his derangement to the whores he perhaps buys in various truck stops. What a DISGUSTING man he is (if even 1/10th of what he says is what he actually believes).

What a kook,
Guess these are the passages he references:

Leviticus 18:22 says:

"Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable."
and Leviticus 20:13 states:

"If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

It's probably obvious, but most Christians find it reprehensible what he is saying. In fact, Christians who are well-studied in their religion know that the Old Testament doesn't even apply to Christians anymore. It was binding for Jews in their time, but once Christ came and the New Testament was written the Old Testament was done away with. So any reference to killing gays/lesbians, killing adulterers, or eating unclean animals made by a Christiand is really made out of ignorance.

There's little difference between him and the Islamic terrorists who claim the Koran gives them the authority to kill infidels. Both are at the fringes and do not reflect the majority or truth found in those books.

He doesn't represent the Democratic party or the Republican party as he holds views contrary to each party's beliefs. So using him to start off a Democrat/Republican party debate is unfortunate and dishonest.

BTW, I don't think we should limit his speech or his campaign in any way at all. It may be reprehensible, but it is his right to spout whatever he wants. As crazy as it may seem, being able to say what you believe is one of the things that makes this country great.

"... it is his right to spout whatever he wants."

Too bad these same so-called freedoms weren't extended to Paul Hackett. It's interesting that the voters will get to decide on the political fate of this Freemont politician while Paul Hackett was denied the same opportunity. So much for what makes this country great.

This "kook" from Freemont will unfortunately incite more rage than the nuking of Hackett by self-proclaimed statewide and national Democrat party leaders who obviously are opposed to free elections and the rights of voters to have a voice.

Am I sensing bigotry on your part toward people of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish religions who believe homosexuality is a sin and an abomination in God's eyes because it says so in their Holy Books.

posted by Toledolaw05 at 04:32 P.M. EST on Mon Mar 06, 2006     #

FYI - if you want a Christian take on the subject. I can clearly state that in the advent of Jesus Christ's birth and subsequent crucifixion - all the wages of sin were paid.
Additionally Jesus taught that all sin was grievous.
So if you want to tell a homosexual that God doesn't like their sexual proclivities - go on ahead and say it. Also be prepared to be told he doesn't like YOUR lifestyle choices either :-) Free speech comes with consequences..er - repercussions?
But what this guy is saying (nick44 said it - it's a good thing he DID speak out or he might have slithered into office) doesn't remotely resemble the teachings of the Lord that I know. He taught that we're supposed to love each other.
Just FYI.

I believe in the New Testament, Jesus tells us that nothing made by his father is unclean, and therefore ok to eat. Shellfish lovers of the world will still go to Heaven.

Coward,

I notice that you did not state that you were against the slaughter of Christians -- only that you were tired of me pointing out your numerous intellectual shortcomings. Stop displaying them and I'll stop pointing them out. BTW, I am a Christian, so I suppose I should get a restraining order on you before you come to my house to kill me and my family for worshipping Jesus Christ.

Yet another discussion that shows how divided we can be. He can run for office, that is the beauty of our system.

Besides, homosexuality is taboo because it always has been. It is an issue that is scary for people. I think homsexuality will survive modern day America.

Religion is a reflection of people, and for every church out there that "hates gays" there is another one that is "welcoming" to all people.

No one should adopt their beliefs from their church. You should find a church that fits with your beliefs.

We all should be more concerned and ready to fight about paying $2.49 a gallon for gas. Or 700$ a month to heat your home.

jdmsbyrd said: "Religion is a reflection of people, and for every church out there that "hates gays" there is another one that is "welcoming" to all people."

Well, it's dueced odd that even if you did find a church in Ohio that welcomed homosexuals, that the state would not recognize their marriage.

Homosexuals have been directly cast as second-class citizens in Ohio as a matter of government policy. It's the very boldness of this bigotry that is bringing scumbags like Keiser out from under their rocks.

Mr prediction now is that it won't take long -- maybe 4 to 8 years -- for people in Ohio (notably not affiliated with racist groups) to start making bold statements in the media against interracial marriage. The civilized wall around the slippery slope has been breached, and it's a long slide.

jdmsbyrd said: "We all should be more concerned and ready to fight about paying $2.49 a gallon for gas. Or 700$ a month to heat your home."

Roger that, but there's not going to be any fight, since opposing these prices means opposing Capitalist practices, and we're positively getting punch-drunk on them at the moment. About the only thing that's good about such outlandish energy prices in Ohio is that they will generate so much hot air in Columbus that we can then capture it and pipe it to needy areas.

You'd sentence me to death because I'm a Christian who believes we should share God's love every way we can (definition of evangelical is to live out Jesus Christ's love in their daily lives)? Or was this a hyperbolic statement to make a point?

I note that you enjoy taking my words so seriously, yet you refuse to denounce the guy who wishes to make being gay a capital crime, or the very idea of such a law. You think it's great for this kook to be a Christian extremist and to advocate killing all the homos, but the minute anyone suggests extremism that might affect you, you go off the rails batshit crazy with hatred.

definition of evangelical is to live out Jesus Christ's love in their daily lives

The nice quiet Christians who keep to themselves I don't mind.

These are the kinds of "Christians" that piss me off:

* "Christians" that tell me I'm going to burn in Hell for not following their personal interpretation of the Bible. Well, according to the Bible, God's supposedly capable of forgiveness, is He not? So you don't know what the Hell his plans are for me and where He is going to choose to send me if/when I come to account in front of Him.

* "Christians" who absolutely believe in and advocate the death of non-Christians, homosexuals, and others. You need to take a look at that "Thou Shalt Not Kill" commandment.

* "Christians" who have no concepts of such things as hypocrisy, paradoxes, and irony. Here it says "Thou Shalt Not Kill", there it says to kill the homos and witches. You can't have it both ways.

* "Christians" who believe in and desire "Christian" government, especially that the USA government is Christian. Somehow, I don't think that Jesus guy wants a Christian government. He wasn't too thrilled with how the Jewish government ended up, and I'm pretty sure He didn't care for how the Romans did things either. The Pharisees and Sadducees played a game of "God says" you must pray this way and eat only that. Along came Jesus to say "hey, this is BS, do what you think is right and don't tell others what to do and how to do it". And they nailed him to a cross for that. How do you think Jesus is going to feel about a government claiming to be in His name telling people that He, Jesus, = wants them to obey all these laws to the letter or they will be guilty sinners that'll burn in Hell?

I wonder if anyone has made the link yet that largely Ohio is not the place for young professionals to harbor, given that a disproportionate number of them are bi- or homo-sexual. Toledoans and Ohioans vote YES on that outrageous anti-gay-marriage item in 2004, yet they are still wondering why the progressive youth are not choosing "God's Country" to settle in?

I'm not gay, but a friend of mine is, and from his statements, in my opinion he is probably feeling rather like a young Jew in 1931 Germany*. If you told him that "hate is a Liberal value", he'd laugh his ass off ... given what has been aimed at him for years in Ohio. Watching the Conservatives denounce him yearly and turn the very law against him, he well understands what REAL HATRED is.

* Er, as long as we've broken the Godwin Barrier, why not?

Back in October 2004, Ken Blackwell, current candidate for governor, compared same-sex couples to farm animals. Blackwell said:

"I don't know how many of you have a farming background but I can tell you right now that notion even defies barnyard logic ... the barnyard knows better."

From a January 2004 posting about the Ohio Senate banning same-sex marriage, a couple politicians disagreed with the ban:

"Sen. David Goodman, a suburban Columbus Republican, referred to his minority status as a Jew in explaining why he opposed the bill. “It’s important we be tolerant and accepting of others who are different from us,” said Goodman."

"Sen. Eric Fingerhut, a Cleveland Democrat, said the bill will hurt Ohio by limiting the ability of businesses and universities to attract talented people. “If we pass this bill, get up tomorrow and look in the mirror,” Fingerhut said. “Smiling back at you is someone who has slowed Ohio’s progress by putting up a sign to people that says, ’We don’t want you here.”’ "

Ok - I denounce this guy. Denounce Kaiser. Denounce, denounce.
I'm not a Christian who's quiet and keeps to myself too much. I'm living a loud fun life. Loving it. Liked this blog - lot of thought/viewpoints. I think different viewpoints are critical. Why God made us different and not the same!
I have a huge group of friends/peers. We're vocal about our faith. We are readers. We ask questions. Sadly we don't have all the answers.
One thing I can definitely say that I believe is, that Jesus Christ and his father, our GOD -, are hugely angry at what is/has occurred in the name of Christianity. Has to be. Absolutely has to be.
And I think the ones that will pay the worst penalty (and I hope I get to see it b/c it has pissed me off too) will those that call themselves Christians and then go out and do wrong to their fellow men. And a Christian (follows teachings of Christ - helloo) knows that we have a whole new deal with the advent of Christ. The old ways were gone.

Nowhere in the new testament does it advocate murder like this man, Kaiser, advocates. Don't believe it - because it is a lie.

And the difference - original writings - referred to 'murder' rather than killing in the commandments. Murder is the decisive act to take another life. Killing, as in defending your life or your family - is sometimes necessary. And not a sin.

I, too, denounce this Kaiser guy. He's nuts. Maybe that's why he's a Democrat.

For the record, Coward, I voted against Issue 1 because I don't think the government ought to prohibit two people who love each other from enjoying the fruits of marriage.

I think that gay couples should be allowed to adopt if they are otherwise ok to adopt.

I do believe that homosexuality is an abomination before God. However, God will judge them when they get to the Pearly Gates. I'll not judge them here on Earth.
