We are losing freedoms more & more. This country isn't the country I was born into - and sadly, probably won't ever be again. If this 'drinking liberally' was about retaining our freedoms, I'd be there - but I highly doubt it is. Sounds more like a bitch & gripe session with drinking - you can find those in any bar. I'm afraid this country is too far gone for something like this to be effective in bringing about any type of change. It's ok to drink, but not ok to smoke - hypocritical on every level as far as I'm concerned.

Ditto. 8^D And I'd bet they're mostly rabid smoker-haters anyway, since these 'meetings' only sprang up after the oHEILo ban. Just a guess. That's really 'progressive' (the new code word for liberal).

I don't know that there's a lot of bitching or a lot of alcohol. Mainly, it's a good coversation, like some you'd find on this board, only live and in person. We are liberals. Some would call ourselves progressive. Some might say socialist. Some might say Democrat. It really isn't about finding one label that everybody has to embrace. It's about meeting people in Toledo with a left wing bent, having a good time and talking about politics.
Not that that's all we talk about. I've traded recipes, examined the state of male/female relations and compared notes on the best place to find live music on a weekend. This is a social club. We're not about making signs or marching on anything...though folks who do those things are (of course) welcome.
I don't know what to say about the smoking idea. I founded the Toledo chapter about a month after hearing about the national group from a friend who attends meetings in Rochester, NY. We had our first meeting in early January. I thought it would be a good way to meet more people in Toledo as I'm self employed and don't have a workplace to provide social contacts.
If you're leaning left, and want to hang with some smart, fun people, we're glad to have you. So come on down tomorrow night. I'll be wearing a purple sweater and a Drinking Liberally button, if you're wondering who to look for.
