New version of Toledo Talk

Another worthless action by Toledo City Council - "Toledo City Council members who wrote an anti-Patriot Act resolution introduced a stripped-down version yesterday aimed at answering Mayor Jack Ford’s objections. Co-sponsors Peter Gerken and Frank Szollosi, both Democrats, said they hope for a vote at council’s next meeting Tuesday. The resolution criticizes the 2001 anti-terrorism law as a threat to civil liberties, especially of Arab, Muslim, and southeast Asian immigrants."

Others besides Toledo City Council have too much time on their hands.

"The group that had asked Toledo City Council to pass a resolution condemning the Patriot Act yesterday disavowed the resolution on council’s agenda."

"The group, Citizens for Individual Rights and Freedoms, said that it wanted an ordinance that would have directed police not to participate in Patriot Act investigations and would have ordered the city to monitor Patriot Act investigations in Toledo."

"The current resolution expresses opposition to the federal terrorism law but omits any directions to the police department."

Where was this group during the smoking ban debacle? Were they involved in opposing it? Were they concerned about individual rights and freedoms of private business owners?
