Carty requests that his salary be reduced and number of councilmen from 12 down to 8 - First, the story includes a link to a copy of the letter Carty sent to John Irish, chairman of Charter Review Committee, requesting the pay reduction and decrease in councilmen numbers.
Is this in line with what the mayor of Youngstown (or is it Akron?) did to downsize the city?

awaiting news release from Subcomandante Bob that he, Subcomandante Bob, is not Carty's supplier of recreational drugs, because Carty surely has to be on *something*

Since when did Toledo City Council only have 12 members? They have 16, you know, when you add in Toledo County members Wozniak, Gerken, Konop, and Wade. Those four live in Toledo, and all but Konop used to be on Toledo City Council.

Why in the world does a city the size of Toledo need so many people on council?
Oklahoma City, close to where I live...has 8 council members. One for each ward. None of the at-large BS that Toledo has.
Oklahoma City - Population about 530,000 in the city that spans over 600 sq miles. City growing pretty well.
Toledo - Population about 298,000 and the city spans around 80 sq miles.
Waste in government. Too many people wanting to be a chief...not enough wanting to get their hands dirty and work.

I'd actually like to see it reduced even more than that - 6 districts/6 councilmen. Period.
BUT - Councilman Phil Copeland says that if even Carty's cuts are made that some people will go unrepresented.
I'd like to know just what he means by that if there is a councilman for each district??
Unless of course he means the non-toledo living, non city property tax paying union members that the current at large councilpeople cater to.

Easy Billy, shhhhhhh
Talk like that might get them Dem's thinking you stupid people are onto them.
And if that happens, you just know they'll run that straight and narrow until the dust settles.

It will never happen in this town, even thought it makes sense and would save the taxpayers a lot of money. That's why it won't happen. I just nailed it. [LOL]
