Blade voting commandments - Here are your marching orders. See, there's no need to pay any attention to politics until the day before the election when you can read what the Blade wants you to do. I'm trying to figure out if it's a surprise that I disagree with most of the Blade's endorsements.
The Blade's voting orders:
President: Kerry
Issue 4: Smoking Ban amendment: Vote NO
State Issue 1: Gay marriage ban: Vote NO
Issue 5: Allocation of 3/4% Tax: Vote AGAINST
Issue 35: Toledo Public Schools: Vote FOR
Issue 37: Port Authority: Vote FOR
Issue 38: Mental Health: Vote FOR
Issue 39: Senior Citizens: Vote FOR
U.S. Senate: George Voinovich
U.S. Representative: Kaptur, Konop, and Weirauch
Ohio Senate: Randy Gardner
Lucas County Commissioner: Wozniak and Gerken
Lucas County Treasurer: Kapszukiewicz.
I say, beware Lucas County residents of Toledo City Councilmen wanting to take over county positions. Toledo has problems so why bring them to the rest of the county by electing Gerken and Kapszukiewicz?
Gerken supports unigov. So does the Blade. Unigov may be a good idea, but there are as many forms of unigov as there are snowflake designs. No specifics yet as to what kind of unigov there would be for Lucas County. Sometimes the pretentious word regionalism is used in place of unigov.
Toledo is pushing for unigov, not the rest of the county. Barlos used to be mayor of Maumee, and he would at least be sensitive to the needs of smaller communities.
Restrict the Toledo bunglers, Gerken and Kapszukiewicz, to Toledo, and don't let them infect the rest of the county with their buffoonery.

What about the potential for vast savings, resulting from elimination of duplicative services? Might "Unigov" improve regional economic development? Why denigrate the concept just because you dislike current candidates? Exactly what have Gerken and Kapszukiewicz "bungled?"

I said unigov may be a good idea, but to me, it's a red flag to the rest of the communities in Lucas County when the ones pushing for unigov are the Blade and the city of Toledo. Does Maumee believe unigov is a great idea?
We've seen how Toledo City Council can ram legislation down our throats without the citizens getting to vote on it. Why should other communities be forced to operate under what Toledo wants? Toledo wants Maumee's Arrowhead Park. Toledo needs the money. Toledo will never admit that the smoking ban is partly to blame for the drop in tax collections from businesses. Toledo has a $14 million deficit. Taxpayers will probably eventually be forced to make this up. This is why people leave Toledo.
Toledo has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state, and it's been that way for many years. Unigov could help the regional economy, but it could also make it worse. Let the Toledo politicians straighten up their own backyard first before venturing elsewhere.
Under a Lucas County unigov regime, who rules? Is it just people from Toledo? Do politicians from other communities have a say in unigov? If they do, how much? Nobody knows yet.

Well on today's Blade opinion page, there's a simpler version of "how to vote." There's no narrative, just a list of what's available for voting and what to choose. I guess this version is for the dolts and dunderheads who don't know how to think. Maybe you can just feed this op-ed into the scanner, saving you the time of filling in ovals. The scanners probably have the Blade module installed, making it capable of handling this op-ed.
This op-ed is similar to what I listed above from yesterday's windier op-ed, just formatted slightly different.
"President
JOHN F. KERRY
U.S. Senate
GEORGE VOINOVICH
Congress
4th District
BEN KONOP
....
"
