New version of Toledo Talk

    December 8, 2004

Toledo's secret government - The People's Republic of Toledo is at again. "Toledo Mayor Jack Ford and two key Lucas County leaders have agreed to merge economic development departments, an accord reached after private discussions that successfully skirted a state law against creating public policy in secret."

"Mr. Ford, county Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak, and county Commissioner-elect Pete Gerken, all Democrats, have agreed in principle to merge the city and county departments, potentially marshaling up to $4.5 million in resources to create and attract new jobs to the county."

Marshaling? Interesting word choice. Shudder. That's too close to marshal law.

Another way to look at this "merger accord" is, politicians have f*cked up Toledo so let's bring down the whole damn county.

Oz, I mean, Mayor Ford added, "It's time we get to a one-voice, big-picture look."

What? Buzz Word Bingo. Quit speaking jibberish, Ford. You sound like an executive with a company going down the tubes that is trying to spin a positive picture to its employees and shareholders. Does anyone else have the feeling that someday we'll see Toledo listed at FuckedCompany.com?

One-voice? Yes, a dictator. One-voice? What the hell does that mean? Does that mean voters no longer have a say?

This is the beginning of unigov, which Ford calls regionalism. Same thing. Lucas County, beware. I think they just raised the threat level to red in Lucas County.

Hold on. Massive pounding on my door. Hired goons dressed in black are demanding I go with them to a re-education camp. Unigov, unigov, unigov, unigov, unigov.

Toledo's definition of unigov: We've ruined our city, so we'll fix it by raiding the financial pockets of citizens in the rest of the county.

Oh, I jest, of course. I'm sure this "merger" will be nothing but positive for fellow comrades. I simply adore the shadowy political process. Makes me all tingly inside.

After unigov has been forced upon us, this is the proposed new flag for Lucas County:

The 12 little stars represent the 12 members of Toledo City Council. And naturally, the big star represents the Strong Mayor of Toledo or the Supreme Ruler. And the rest of the flag is self-explanatory.

The other proposed flag design is:

I didn't vote for her so she's not *my* county representative.

In all seriousness, it does look like Toledo will be trying to force its crappy services upon every city in the county. If they do, I will be the next in the ongoing mass exodus from Lucas county. Helloooo Northwood.

"(psst.. it's spelled martial law)"

So true. But there's a comic book hero called "Marshal Law." Toledo government, a comic book? An upcoming story in the series is called "Cloak of Evil," which seems fitting. The Toledo govt. version, however, would not be considered a hero.

"It's time for Marshal Law to once more don his black leather and barbed wire...and dish the pain!"

Mmmm. Might make for a good spoof. A local comic book series of Jack Ford and John Robinson Block dressed in leather and barbed wire dishing out pain to the citizens of Lucas County.

Toledo’s mayor and the above-mentioned county commissioners are old school big government liberals. They believe that every problem can be solved if there exists a government bureaucracy to deal with it. The problem with liberals is that they always loose sight of the fact that the middle class (the people who pay the bills) can only afford so much government bureaucracy.
Unigov will help with Toledo’s problems in the short term. Of course in order to do this, the county government will have to act as Robin Hood. Steal from the rich (Sylvania and Maumee) and give to the poor (Toledo). Eventually this will cause a demographic shift as is ongoing in Toledo. The middle class will see that they are paying the highest taxes in the area code for the shittiest of government services and decide to move. The thugs, crack whores, gang bangers, and welfare queens will move in because the city has low cost housing (no working person wants it) and they don’t care about the taxes, they don’t pay them anyway. When it happens, the liberals will call it sprawl, when in reality, it was just the chickens coming home to roost.
