Toledo Mapping Project - I'd like to share a mapping and photo mash-up I started using local.live.com. I've got it started with a few of my own photos and a few I got from Micah's public photos (Micah I gave you credit).
The idea is to include a photo of a location in Toledo or NW Ohio on the map. Here's where you come in. You can add your own photo to the map simply by referencing where your photo is located. For example (http://yourwebsite.com/photos/me.jpg). As long as JR doesn't mind, just refernce your photo's location here. Any photo of a business, park, street, etc. in Toledo or Northwest Ohio is acceptable.
Take a look at the link, play around with it and see what you think. If you hover over the number the photo is displayed,

Forgot to mention that I need to load up the photo since the account is under my name. You can just reference your photo here and I'll take the link and add it to the map.

Also...a public link is generated which we be shared with everyone, like the link in the original post. If I can get a few dozen photos the map will be pretty useful I think.

Thats really cool! I'm pretty sure that we all can fill that map up.
I know it's not Toledo, but here's a recent pic of the windmills in BG.

Thanks for the photos. Keep them coming! More pictures have been added. Micah where exactly are the windmills?
For any picture, an exact location and a good size photo, maybe somewhere around 500 pixels would be ideal.

Great idea!! But, why limit it to just Toledo and NW Ohio? Let's include the whole Lake Erie West Region! It can become a great marketing tool to call attention to our region globally.

You know that you could sell ads on a site like this. Businesses associated by location....maybe you're already onto this?

Unless I'm mistaken, this is a google run website, but it has user input. I think Google would be pretty angry if he sold advertisements on their investment...haha

Anyone ever check out Wikimapia? Sounds a lot like what you're trying to do, but it uses the Google Maps API.

Ah you have a point there :-) They probably already have something cooking.
Have you seen Google Earth? It's a sat application. You can download it through Google.
Is this something the City of Toledo would be willing to link to?

Yep, the entire NW Ohio area.

Great idea. Not sure about doing this.

Never seen it before. I did check it out and no pictures.
I just wanted something local and thought placing pictures in the map would be useful. I guess it's only as good as the personal pictures people offer. I hope to take some photos and add but was hoping for some help. :-)

"Let's include the whole Lake Erie West Region!" "Yep, the entire NW Ohio area"
Lake Erie West includes SE MIchigan and a piece of Canada! (The Ambassador Bridge is at milage marker 47 on I-75).
Lake Erie West is defined as the geography that can be reached in one hour's drive time from the intersection of I-75 and I 80/90. (65 mph on the Interstates). Globally, Lake Erie West means something. NW Ohio and SE Michigan causes confusion and appears to be devisive.
