Illegal Cable affects paying customers - FYI to anyone out there that thinks its harmless to illegally hook up your cable - it frags up the service for all the paying customers in your neighborhood.

Please get a job and a life and start paying for your cable instead of stealing it! We're sick of having to fix it and so are your neighbors (who don't know about it and blame us).

Thanks. Just needed to vent.

Hmmm...now I would think that when Buckeye setup the hardline and the amplifier for the neighborhood, they would have accounted for ALL houses to be connected and would have figured this into the system power.

Instead, you want us to believe that when each house decides to add cable service, then Buckeye/Metro will be coming out and adding/tweaking the amplifiers?

No, the cable architecture has been 'configured' and amplifiers placed for all potential users of that particular neighborhood hub to work off that hub. But you're right on one front: "pay for cable instead of stealing it."

It's still alright to steal music using my buckeye cable internet, right?

I'd say no...they busted me downloading copywrited material with bit torrent. I got a nice stern letter.

Here's a better idea: Don't tie consumers into buying packages and let them buy services a la carte. I will never, ever watch the Hallmark Channel, Sportstime Ohio, or CMT, but I still have to pay for them.

Another idea: If you offer weekend installation, let the call center people know. When I signed up for Buckeye, I was told that the only times for installation were Monday-Friday, but the installation tech told me that they also offer Saturday installation. And buy your techs a watch. 10:30 AM and 6:15 PM are not within the hours of 12 to 4 on my clock.

If it's possible, try to have the CSRs in the satellite offices act a little less indignant and condesending. No, I haven't tried unplugging the box and plugging it back in to see if it works afterwards, but I have tried screaming at it and offered it a human sacrifice. If I'm bring it in for service personally, I've done what could be expected on my end.

Also, offer a DVR that's worth a damn. I know, it does HD and it has a big hard drive. You know what the Buckeye DVR doesn't do? Match the performance and features found on a TiVo for less money per month. The Rewind/FF feature on the Buckeye DVR doesn't work all that well and navigation is a PITA. And while you're at it, how about bumping up the speed of the $30 a month cable modem service? DSL is kicking Buckeye's ass at that price point.

"Right ON "thenick"!!! I'll drink to that, and just to add Buckeye keeps useing intimading adds aspousing their advanced techknology that "detects cable theft" SO WHY THE HELL DO THEY WANT YOUR NEIGHBORS TO TURN YOU IN?? IS THERE A BOUNTY? OR IS IT JUST SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD TATELING ON OTHERS (ie RATTING OUT!!) AND IF CHANNEL 52 IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF PROGRAMING ALONG WITH "ALL THE DAMED" HSN, QVC, FOR SALE CHANNELS, WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT TO STEAL THEIR SIGNALS.....BURP....

OH YEA, I FORGOT, "WHATS WITH THE 1 1/2 SECOND STARTING A COMMERCIAL, THEN CUTTING TO ANOTHER COMMERCIAL, AND WHEN SOME COMMERCIALS COME ON THE VOLUME IS SO DAMED HIGH IT BLOWS YOU OUT OF YOUR SEAT??
posted by blacjac687 at 06:40 P.M. EST on Mon Apr 23, 2007     #

I don't think the volume thing has anthing to do with the cable people. I think thats on the people who filmed the commercial.

I do like the idea of ala carte cable though. I probably only watch 25% of the channels I get but the next package down would take away channels that I do watch.

They also charge you $5 a pop if you call to make changes to your account. I have the VIP bundle and when I had to make one small change to my phone service (removing a privacy block) they hit me for a $5 service charge to cover "opening my account to make the change"

I worked at Convergys and did pretty much the exact same job. No way that opening an account window and making a change to it requires a $5 charge, considering my account was already open as soon as she took my info at the beginning of the call.
Total rip off that.

Isn't Buckeye owned by the Blocks? Maybe they'retrying to make back the money they are losing at the Blade?

Does this mean the demise of Wabbit?

It's not the fact that I blew your "stealing cable...frags up the service for all the paying customers was it?

Perhaps you're perpetuating the lies Buckeye turns out. Maybe you're just not familiar with the CATV architecture and theory. Whatever the case may be, the local plant has been 'configured' - designed, as it were, for a full load - service to the entire neighborhood.

Amplifiers placed in strategic spots boost the signal for the downstream. RG-59 cables have been replaced to better handle the downstream (and the increased bandwidth).

What does interfere with a good signal are the old '59 cables and damaged hardlines and drops. (Damn squirrels just LOVE the plastic insulation on the hardline!)

In other words (and forgive the 'yelling') ILLEGAL HOOKUPS DO NOT DRAG DOWN THE SIGNAL!

There. You've been edumacated!

Sorry if I stepped on your attempt to bambozzle the customer! Just tell it like it is - "Illegal hookups take money from us and we'll just have to pass the costs on to you, the paying customer until your cable bill gets so high you'll switch to satellite!

Lame?
Jerks?
Hey, you opened the door, pal {he says as he waves Bye-Bye}

Silly Wabbit works for the Blade? Are you union or scab?

Hey, can you tell whatever jerks that keep calling me and asking over and over if I want the Blade that hell no means hell no.

The blade isn't fit to wrap fish in.

A couple of things:

One-I don't feel as guilty downloading free music after watching an episode of MTV's Cribs.

Two-Some of my neighbors laugh at how they just went up the ladder and re-connnected their cable after it was disconnected.

Three-I also think packages should be more varied. Maybe a basic then, a handful of customer picked channels to view and pay for.

Four-Please get rid of the pathetic customer service jerks that now work for buckeye. Just because they used to work at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, does not mean they know customer service. If you can even call it customer service. They are some of the worst.

I might come back to buckeye, but for now, I'm a dish dork.

Does this mean the demise of Wabbit?

I don't know what I ever said here prior to the other day's "Lame & Jerks" comment to make people dislike me.

Yep, I'm gone. This is the last waste of my time I'm spending on all the nasty commenters here.

as if you care. i'm sure there will be plenty of comebacks to this too. Don't waste your time, I won't be reading them. I'll be spending my summer with my hubby having good times.

Hey, Wabbit, don't take things so personal! We all "take our turn in the barrel"! (Lord knows I've been there a few times!)

You've had some good input - we - or at least me - don't want to see you go.

Seriously! (and I don't get serious too often - at least that's what my shrink and Parole Officer tell me!!)

I agree wabbit, don't take it personally. and if its any consollation, ive said it before, and i'll say it again, i'm very happy with my cable service.

It's like any Company, Buckeye has it's good points and Bad points.. Good points is that it's a local owned company, and in the cable industrial, it's higher in customer satisfaction then most other cable companies. (At least their techs don't fall asleep on their customer's couches). They still has somethings they can do for improvement for customer service, but at least all their phone personal speak English.

Plantman, your knowledge of cable signal delivery is way beyond anything I know, but I think it explaines why the cable guy is up the pole in front of my house at least twice a year. We are one of two households on the block who get satellite. The cable guy climbs the pole and fiddles with the wires up there. It is obvious we were connected at one time but not now as the connection just dangles and we removed the cable wire from the side of the house years ago. Not to mention the big fat dish parked in the side yard visible to all. So why check the hook up, or lack thereof? We had a real hard time getting untangled from Buckeye. They don't give up easy.

Satellite is equally guilty about programming choices as cable. I would love alacart. To each his own -please!

holland, there's a number of things 'Larry' the cable guy could be doing: checking to make sure the disconnected are in fact disconnected (not stealing cable); signal measurements at the tap; troubleshooting a neighbors service....the list goes on.

Chances are the tap in front of your house is a '4-position', and since you're satellite, there might be 3 other neighbors on that tap.

Funny story, I had a Buckeye guy in my back yard. I let my dog out, it's how I discovered him - so of course the dog makes a bee line straight for him. (Not to bite but to say hi - I was just worried he would scare the guy)

I hollered, "Taylor!!!!! Knock it off!!!"

The guy freezes mid-step. He turns around and says 'What did you say?'

I repeat myself and he says, 'Oh, my name is Taylor'.

It was very, very funny....

Plantman, that does explain it. Every time a cement truck or a dump truck goes down the road the height of the equipment just grabs that cable going across the road and snaps it to the east coast and back and then down on the road she goes. Next thing ya know I got two neighbors crying the blues cause they don't have cable. Happens two or three times a year. Seems like they would put that line higher up the pole. One neignbor is bundled and loses everything. It takes a while for cable to respond too.

Yup - 'spose to be (if memory serves) 15' clearance above a highway, 12' above a commercial drive and 10' above private drive.

There's also certain minimum clearances from power & telephone lines - can't go above power....etc.

In some older sections of town, those clearances might be hard or next to impossible to achieve.

What some techs don't realize is that when they string a drop in the winter, they don't pull it as tight as they should and have virtually no 'sag' in the line. In the heat of summer, the drop basically 'expands-stretches, so you get more 'sag' in the line.

I have to say I'm fortunate to have never seen these ads before. Buckeye priced me out of the market years ago and I've been on satellite ever since. I don't see why I should by $10 more a month for half the channels or $30 more a month to get the few channels I actually want. If Buckeye had a reasonable a la carte system I'd consider coming back.
