Thank you Toledo - Recently I asked the question, should I move my family from Tucson home to Toledo or take an exciting job in San Diego.
Many of you said I should make my wife happy and move home to Toledo. I agreed and set my sights on Toledo. Sadly, the employeer set his sights on another last minute candidate.
So here we are in San Diego. I'm sad were not coming back but we have to take the path a high power sends us down. If I can't come home, at least I feel like I'm serving our country. I'm the Public Affairs Officer for the Naval Special Warfare Command... better known as the Navy SEAL training program.
We're here for a year and then who knows????
I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice during our time of confusion. It was great appreciated. I hope our paths can cross again someday.

Navy LT: Best of luck to you and your family. Things work out for a reason and usually for the best. Hopefully, for Toledo's sake, you'll get here soon.
Good luck and all the best in your new job and in S California. Just remember us in Februray when it's freezing here, and probably 60 degrees and sunny there!

No, because he would have to get up off the couch to do that! LOL

Can you 'swim, sneak and shoot' like the rest of the guys? :^)
Out of curiosity and while I perhaps have your attention, are there any female soliders in the SEALS?

What a bunch of bunk...NavyLT is former
NBC-24 weatherman Dave Hecht, who's now a PR flak for the Navy and has never and will never see combat with a cushy job like that.
There was no "last-minute candidate", the agency involved promoted from within. He was one of six people as finalists-- and just didn't get the job.
Good luck in Diego...

Good luck w/the situation in CA navyLT. And thanks for the update.
As for the rest here - you know what they say about dodging flak and s*%t :-)

If that is Dave Hecht, wasn't he on the TLC or Discovery show about "while you were out," or something? He had a room re-done to thank his wife for moving out of Toledo to Tucson.
Oh, and for the record, unlike in my first comment, I do know how to spell February.
Tahnk you.

Sparky,
That's just rude. Bottom line: I'm serving, did you? And no, I haven't been in combat, but I did do 6-months in Bahrain and Basra, Iraq last year. Did you?

Sparky,
Why is it that every topic you have posted credits NBC 24 with some exclusive, groundbreaking story? Do you work for NBC 24? Is this the only way the station can crawl out of the ratings sewer? If you work for NBC 24, I'd be embarassed.
I agree with NAVYLT, you're post was rude. Perhaps you should "out" yourself and tell us who you are!

I don't think I ask much of people who post to this site. That's why it's irritating when someone blatantly abuses his or her priviledges here by committing fraud.
First of all, I want to apologize to NAVYLT for what sparky did. If a user wants to post his or her real name, place of employment, job title, shoe size, etc., that's user A's business. I don't think it should be the business of user B because user B is "in the know" about user A.
The sparky account has been deactivated, and it's not because of sparky's "outing" of NAVYLT, as bad as that is. It's because of sparky's self-promotion on Toledo Talk for himself and his for-profit employers, and mainly because he did so by pretending to be someone else.
I allow bloggers to link from here back to postings on their site. As long as it's not flagrant advertising of a widget, then posting back to one's own site will probably be allowed.
Toledo Free Press editor Michael Miller will make postings back to the Toledo Free Press site. I may be providing some leeway to the posting guidelines when I allow that. But at the same time, the TFP has reached out to bloggers. Since the TFP began, a small relationship has existed between the Toledo Free Press and the Toledo blogosphere.
Miller of the TFP posts under the nickname Fuselighter. But we know it's Miller because he says so on his profile page, and usually in his postings, he signs his real name.
But sparky hasn't done that. I know who sparky is because in sparky's first posting to this site, sparky made a mistake and posted his work e-mail address. He asked for the posting to be removed, and I complied with his request. But I forgot all about that until now.
I never put it together about sparky until TroysMom's insightful comment above. Look at sparky's front page postings and his comments, and you'll know who sparky is. I don't need to mention a name. I can't believe I never noticed this before.
Some of sparky's past postings:
March 1, 2006 - "NBC-24 has done it again! Kevin Milliken had a story tonight on who The Trainer is as it relates to the government's investigation into the Toledo terror suspects and KindHearts."
March 6, 2006 - "Of course, NBC-24 broke some exclusive details about the project. Kevin Milliken also reported Skippy is going to use millions of our taxpayer dollars to finance the arena like Ray Kest did with 5/3 Field."
June 9, 2006 - "Carty was supposed to be a guest on WSPD's Eye on Toledo last night. However, Brian Wilson said he pulled the plug on an in-studio interview with Kevin Milliken, the show's host, until the mayor issues a public apology to Fred, the station, and its advertisers."
June 27, 2006 - "One of WSPD's talk show hosts got charged $1500...and they've been talking about it for a couple of weeks."
July 5, 2006 - "Lemmon writes this toilet paper tirade against WSPD for bashing Carty. BTW, check out Eye on Toledo @ 6 pm-- Milliken seems to give WSPD some two-sided issues, stays local and has some journalism behind him."
July 13, 2006 - "Kevin Milliken has been hammering away at the flooding for two nights now on WSPD...had some info about the Toledo Waterways Initiative and a lawsuit that took more than a decade to settle."

Kevin Milliken is "sparky"? Oh no!
Seriously, jr, what a jerk! No wonder I stopped watching NBC-24 for news...

I think what is important is the deception. He tried to pass himself off as someone else.
I've said multiple times that I am not afraid to be "outed" but that's because I haven't tried to pass myself off as someone I'm not.
Now I have had some journalistic contributions to some sports stories and related material, I have not discussed them on here nor tried to promote their reading, not that it would even help anyway being this isn't a sports site. For me to do so would be an ethical lapse in judgment.

JR,
I want to thank you for the actions you have taken. The goal of my post was to simply thank Toledoans for their thoughts on my situation.
Instead, I get "outed" and slapped in the face for the capacity in which I'm serving in uniform. That's just not cool.
But what disturbs me the most is that I thought I was friends with the individual in question. Now after learning who "Sparky" is, I guess I was wrong. It's amazing to learn what people really think of you.
But like the old saying goes, don't let one bad apple ruin the bunch. Toledo is a great town with great people, and again everyone, thank you for your advice.

NAVYLT, I have family who live in Chula Vista, a Diego suburb. Do you live near there?
posted by MrsPhoenix at 09:35 A.M. EST on Thu Sep 21, 2006 #
We're renting a house in Ocean View Hills, just south of Chula Vista. My wife really wanted to live in East Lake, but we're still very happy where we ended up. Thanks for asking.
