Idiot Parents Department - 17-year old Hayley Hilderbrand od Altamont, KS was mauled by a white Siberian tiger Thursday. The girl was getting her senior pictures taken with the wild animal when it turned on her.
This, of course, is a sad tale of a young woman killed in tragic circumstances. But, I have to ask, why in the name of everything holy would her parents allow her to do something so stupid?
My children come up to me with all manner of impulsive schemes, and I recognize that there are times when you just say "no." N-O. Nein. Non:
Kid: "Can I get a tattoo of 50 Cent on my butt?"
Parent: "No."
Kid: "Can I stay out all night? All my friends get to!"
Parent: "No."
Kid: "I'm 16 now! Can I dash right out and get my license? Everybody else got a license and a Porsche and a 2000-watt audio system and tickets to the Bahamas when they turned 16! Pleeeeese?!?!?"
Parent: "No."
See? It's really simple. Practice saying it, and you just might keep your kid from doing something deadly.
Like getting her picture taken with a Siberian tiger.

Roy obviously went thru his ordeal in vain.
It truly eludes me the logic some people use when trying to make their kids happy. Yet when tragedy strikes, there's not a thing one can do to fix it.
Just another example of the need to license parents to breed.

When my daughter was an infant her Greek born pediatrician told me that only in America did parents spend so much time trying to make sure their children were happy.
I have never forgotten that. It reinforced my belief that my primary job was to keep her alive and saying no was often the best way to do that.

Whatever happened with the BASIC School Photo?
Just the Face Shot?
Why in the world would a graduating student have an animal in a School Photo?
Yes, we as PARENT'S do try to keep our children happy and at times it is difficult to say "NO"...
Let's hope...everyone learned from this tragedy...

Unfortunately, common sense isnt a requirement of being a parent.

swantucky,
"Unfortunately, common sense isnt a requirement of being a parent."
Indeed, and if there were truly common sense, MANY of us would have never gotten married (nor had children).
I lay the blame at Lust's feet.
And, we should all know that Common Sense and Lust never go to the same parties, let alone dance together ;-)

How can a photographer have a PERMIT to photograph students with WILD ANIMALS?
