New version of Toledo Talk

Block's latest screw job with his rag - Went over to visit my sister last night. She's currently looking for work, and just had her cable turned off, so I took her some of my videos to watch. She gets the rag every Sunday, in order to check the want ads. Get this. Do you remember the TV Listings booklet they included in the Sunday paper? It's gone. She showed me what it is now. Just the listings for Sunday. That's it. No listings of the upcoming movies for the week ahead-nothing. Just the daily listing. Translation: If you vant to see der listings thrugh der veek, you vill buy our paper on a daily basis! And-this comes about a month or so after they raised the price of the Sunday to $1.75. As she only buys the Sunday, she sees this as a double slap in the face-which, of course, it is. Scumbag! He's always got every angle figured.

Comments ...

That's strange, last time I did buy a Sunday paper about three weeks ago it did have the Entertainment thing still in it. It was in a different spot with the ads if I remember right but it was still there. That and the Sunday comics and coupons were the only reason a Sunday paper was worth it.

I guess the cheaper option is to buy a tv guide.

:-)

I'm pretty sure this past Sunday was the 2nd week of the new tv section. I wasn't too happy about it either.

Right you are aperson. 2 weeks ago was the first week they "modified" thier TV section.

And, right you are FK. It was clearly a move to boost sagging weekday sales.

What a shame, what a shame.

The weekly TV listings have been in the thurs. Blade for about a year now along with movie reviews and event listings.

I have to ask Foolkiller once again: if you don't read the Blade WHY DO YOU CARE?
I get the feeling you're kinda obsessed with Mr.Block.

Why don't you just STFU , Harvey. Yes, I despise JRB as he, and his paper, along with the 'a' team they own,& the stupidity of the average toledoan who believes its bilge, are responsible for the demise of said city. If that makes one 'obsessed', then so be it. If you don't agree, WHY DO YOU CARE what anyone else here thinks? Go to another board. I have a feeling DU might be more to your liking.

I hasten to add-after seeing your profile & reading your whole 35 comments-you are a troll, IMHO.

Harvey Brooks is spreading as much disinformation as the local daily rag. There was no weekly TV listing in my paper this morning.

FK, while STFU might be a bit harsh, certainly SU or STHU would be in order.

A certain little fat Block-head that talks with a most pronounced LISP,and actually owns Toledo has no doubtedly helped finance Ford's political war chest. HOW MANY OF FORD'S POLITICAL FLIERS HAVE YOU RECEIVED IN YOUR MAIL? Those printings and mailings cost a small fortune folks! Please take notice that those fliers ARE NOT printed at a union shop because there is no "union bug" on them.
With the decline in jobs Toledo has also lost population --- leaving the remaining population to take up the slack in tax revenues that will go toward pie in the sky projects. LISPY will get what HE wants no matter what the voters vote against. = Remember, we voted AGAINST the so called "Convention Center," and it was still shoved down our throats while our infrastructure rots from lack of constant maintenance......but,LISPY got his new baseball stadium down town where HE wanted it too ; where sewer lids blew off right at it's gates. How is the condition of YOUR street and sidewalks lately?

Remember, we voted AGAINST the so called "Convention Center," and it was still shoved down our throats while our infrastructure rots from lack of constant maintenance......
That is in reference to Chapter VI, Section 79 of the Toledo City Charter which was an initiative ballot issue. Section 79 reads as follows:
Compulsory referendum of certain measures - franchises.
No ordinance or resolution for a public improvement requiring or authorizing the expenditure of more than fifteen percent (15%) of the average gross annual current operating expenditures by the City for the five (5) fiscal years immediately preceding, or for the granting of a general public utility franchise, shall be effective until the same shall be approved by a majority vote of the electors voting thereon; provided, however, no convention center, exhibit hall, sports arena, or municipal theater, other than a sports arena located in the City's Marina District, being the area bounded by the Maumee River, Interstate Highway 280, Front Street and Main Street, shall be constructed, acquired, or leased unless the ordinance or resolution authorizing construction bidding, acquisition, or leasing shall have been approved by a majority vote of the electors voting thereon, whether or not such ordinance or resolution requires or authorizes the expenditure of more or less than fifteen percent (15%) of the average gross annual current operating expenditures by the City for the five (5) fiscal years immediately preceding. A general public utility is one in which all the people of the City may have an interest.
(Amended by electors 9-11-01)

The Convention Center was built through the County of Lucas NOT the City of Toledo. Technically, Lucas County government is not constrained nor restrained by the Charter of the City of Toledo. Even though the population of Toledo constitutes approximately 75% of the population of Lucas County, the Board of Commissioners of Lucas County with Sandy Isenberg as its president decided the heck with the will of the people and went ahead with the convention center.
