Solving Another Graffiti Mystery - OK, I have been seeing these James Dean stencils all over town (click on the link for a photo). Who is doing this - and, perhaps more importantly, why are people spray painting images of the long-dead rebel?

(no Mike Ferner jokes, please) :-}

Marilyn is still popular too - James Dean has made a comeback in popularity, perhaps because of the recent release on DVD of the complete James Dean movies

Or? Might be a symbol representing something we don't yet know about. Like a new gang of 2006 Jame Deans type marking their terrirory. Let's hope poodle skirts don't make a comeback....

I hope our police find these criminals with their 'criminal tools' in the back seat.

They probably are urban terrorists. Call the Homeland Security Department, quick!

Are you sure it's James Dean? My first impression was Jack Kerouac.

Wow, now a second mystery...is it really James Dean or Jack Kerouac...

After pulling up both photo's side by side? It does look like Jack.

Wow, nice call psyche! I took the liberty of doing a little Photoshop to match the angle and scale...

I'd say you hit it on the head, no pun intended.

Interesting thought about Kerouac. I got an email from someone who said that she thinks she knows the people responsible, and that she thinks it's high school art students.

Okay, so why would someone paint pictures of Kerouac?

(nice work Dan, that makes it alot easier to tell)

Actually I remembered the image from seeing a collection of posters or T-shirts of cultural icons somewhere. Another one that I remember in the collection was Che Guevara.
