New version of Toledo Talk

    July 17, 2006

Why is my use of obscenity a problem when our President and VP use dirty words too? - So Dick Cheney said "go f--k yourself" to a Senator on the floor of the Senate, and Bush can use the s-word to describe Hezbollah's actions to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, but people on this board criticize my mouth? What the f--k? And let's not forget how the FCC's got a hard-on for penalizing anyone for anything they deem obscene. Y'all impeached Clinton for getting a b--wj-b in the Oval Office, because extramarital sexual acts are bad, getting them in the Oval Office is worse, and it's super double plus wrong to lie about it. Why aren't you impeaching Bush and Cheney for their potty mouths? If you're prepared to accept this behavior from your elected leaders, then why criticize ME? And if you're not prepared to accept it from them, then you ought to be punishing THEM "pour encourager les autres".

And I must say I find it TOTALLY HYPOCRITICAL that Bush signed a law toughening penalties on obscenity and ordered the FCC to crack down, yet he's spouting them off to foreign heads of state.

You're joking right?

Clinton wasn't impeached because of his sexual improprieties....they were long known about before impeachment ever came up. He was impeached because he perjured himself under oath in a sworn deposition.

he perjured himself under oath in a sworn deposition which had nothing to do with what Ken Starr was supposed to be investigating and wasn't even perjury if you actually examine the legal definition of perjury, but I digress. Still, a lot of people were upset over the mere notion of a blowjob, be it extramarital or not, and especially happening in the Oval Office... but is swearing to a foreign head of state at the G8 conference acceptable behavior for a president either?

AC-I guess my question is why do you have to use the F word. I have read your comments over the last few months and find u an intelligent person although I don't agree with everything u say. You made a conscious decision to use that word as apposed to the president and vp made a slip of the tongue. No excuse for them but I am sure they regreted using that language.

Hey anonymous coward:

(Moderator, please excuse the word...this is cut and pasted from Wikipidia, solely to cite as an example)

"In late 2003, US presidential candidate Senator John Kerry used the word "fuck" in an interview with Rolling Stone. Referring to his vote in favor of the resolution authorizing President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq, Sen. Kerry stated, "I voted for what I thought was best for the country. Did I expect Howard Dean to go off to the left and say, 'I'm against everything'? Sure. Did I expect George Bush to fuck it up as badly as he did? I don't think anybody did."[3] "

"In June 2004, US Vice President Dick Cheney told Senator Patrick Leahy to either "fuck off" or "go fuck yourself" during an exchange on the floor of the Senate. [4]"

So, yes, EVERYONE uses it. We don't make our decisions on how we conduct ourselves by the examples set by our party leaders, do we?

Now shut the f**k up.

additionally, bush and cheney used these words in what was meant to be private conversations. your rants are public and meant to be that way.

Personally I think there is a big difference between swearing when speaking (one rarely gets to "preview" when speaking)and taking the time to type/write out the words, to take the time to construct an entire sentence or paragraph around that word or words, preview it, spell check it and still not be able to express yourself without resorting to profanity.

And that's bulls--t :) because people ought to be smart enough to think before flapping their lips just as you say they can do when typing something up. If Bush is playing diplomat to a foreign leader, he surely can take the time to THINK before opening his mouth. In his place I'd have kept my mouth shut, no matter how much I might personally like the other leaders, because there's ALWAYS someone listening in. There always is if you're a high-level member of the government, be it a spy for another government or group or someone out to get you politically or personally, or who just doesn't agree with you.

Oh for Pete's Sake, are you serious?

1) The President was having a private conversation. Believe it or not people can do what they want in private.

2) This isn't YOUR website, it is privately owned. You have absoluetly no right to free speech here whatsoever, you only have the right to "speak" (or type) as far as the owner says.

3) The two have nothing to do with each other.

4) Is this an excuse to attack a couple Republicans because you're so blindly hateful of them that you can't see straight or do you honestly not understand why they can say what they want in private conversations while you can't do it in public on this site's owner's dime?

5) Grow up. While I may not always agree with you you usually make some decent points. This rant befits a nine year old and takes away from your usual posting skill.

Hat tip to Billy... :)

****************************************

Wow. So many thoughts - so little time.

Why is my use of obscenity a problem when our President and VP use dirty words too?

Because you are what YOU ARE.

For starters, you are no George Bush and you are no Dick Cheney. Comparisons are not possible. Unless you've managed to secure gainful employment in beautiful Port Clinton, you aren't even contributing income taxes to this society. How DO you manage to eat? How do you pay for your internet connection? For someone without means, you spend alot of time putzing around on your computer.

Your self-centered, poorly-formed, marginally-educated rants are certainly not improved through the use of foul language. While such language may make you feel better, it is not beneficial to anyone involved.

I've told you before that you are an internet bully. Dial 911; maybe a wahmbulance will arrive to help you with your personality disorder.

He's a public official representing this country at a meeting of other nations. He's also a "role model" for thousands of kids who are hearing his potty mouth on CNN and are going to read it in the newspapers tomorrow.

If this was Carty being vulgar after a council meeting or having a private discussion overheard inside a public venue, it'd be all over the likes of WSPD and here within hours, and you know it.

So today's excuse is that it's okay for Bush to have a potty mouth while talking to people at the G8 meeting, so long as he doesn't drop f-bombs and the like in, say, the State of the Union speech?

You are comparing yourself with the President and Vice President of our country!!!

We don't have kings or emperors or other nobility here in the USA, and the President does not rule by divine right. The minute we ascribe certain powers and exceptions to the President because he's the President, we no longer live in a democracy. The President is not always and automatically right because he's the President.

"Well, when the President does it, that means that it's not illegal." -- Richard Nixon

"The President is always right." -- Steven Bradbury, head of the Justice Departmentís office of legal counsel, in response to questioning over the Hamdan decision and Guantanamo by Senator Leahy in a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"... perhaps YOUR sides can be sore so much from the laughter."

If happiness is waiting for some party to lose elections, you need to find a different hobby.

I don't know about anyone else, but no matter the outcome in a November election, the next day for me is simply another Wednesday with more important things to consider like who will be the Lions starting quarterback on Sunday.

No matter what happens this November, Toledoans will still have the C-man and a whole host of others that need watching. A local politician that's elected or re-elected is someone to keep an eye on.

Jeebus! What a bunch of forking bastiche iceholes around here!

When Cheney's little f-you tirade was made public, I didn't utter a peep. Neo-Con Fascist or not, he has every right to vent in public like a real person would.

Now King George said "shit" over an open mic. Big whoop.

Is this a slow news day, or what?

But it doesn't really matter whether it was a human response or not - some are determined to be critical and negative. No matter what. I wouldn't pursue.

To anonymouscoward,
You obviously enjoy chaos, are easily rattled, and given to outbursts of profane rage, besides all that, you are pretty funny sometimes! A few well placed comments will set you ablaze with indignant fury. I find the the entire thing, (your rantings on toledotalk), to be somewhat amusing, and some of your "word wars" are very humorous.

You do have a serious side, and the intelligence to be understood without profanity. You might underrate your own ability to win an argument, or simply to state your case and MOVE ON!

I personally do not find President Bush to be a very mature person. Does that mean YOU have to stoop to his level?

This was the dumbest news story I've heard in weeks.

So the president talks in private the way that I talk in private. Big deal. Maybe when he's out of office we can play poker together and trade thoughts on what an idiot Paris Hilton is. Can we limit our media to things that are newsworthy.
