Check Out Self-Leadership Programs - With the school year at end parents have just a small amount of time to reflect on the school experience of their students. Some parents will be preparing to send their students off to college. Parents should take a little time this summer to check out some of the self-leadership programs that are offered by public and private groups. Some are faith-based, while others are more secular in nature. Parents can find these programs that address college-preparedness and life skills enhancement on the internet. Here are some of the web-sites that I would recommend: 1. College-Bound.net, 2. Edutopia, 3. Gorillas & Gazelles LLC and 4. College Blues.com and ADDA.com.

I will confess that I have affiliation with the third group, but it is a Toledo Area Resource.

Whether you're preparing your student for college life and the risks and opportunities that come with it, or you have a student that was challenged in their previous school year, self-leadership programs can help them develop critical thinking skills, effective decision-making skills and an enhanced ability to prioritize their activities. Programs such as those offered or advertised through groups such as these are particularly helpful for students with A.D.D. and other learning disabilities. A little extra preparedness can go a long ways toward your student's realization of a successful academic and life experience.
