Barbaro's Toledo Fans Recall Their Mighty Champion - Barbaro mania: Local members of a fan club dedicated to Kentucky Derby-winning thoroughbred Barbaro gathered to console one another, and to share memories of their equine idol.

"Tre is not really into the whole 'father' deal, and he told me I could name the baby whatever I want, so really - I didn't even bother to ask him for his opinion," she said. "He's always trippin', and he don't want to just let it be, you know? Sometimes I'm like wrecking my brain, trying to figure out how we even came to this, how we even came about, you know? But me and Baby Barbaro are going to make it, just fine."
And this girl is a junior at the University of Michigan? Yikes.
(I'm assuming this is a real story, and not something fabricated for The Onion or some similar publication?)

Okay - obviously I posted before checking out the rest of your site. Glad I put the qualifier above about "The Onion or some similar publication." :)
You'd like to think that a story like that had to be fake, but there are some bizarre individuals out there these days...

Actually mom2, I can see where you'd think this might be a real story, since most attempts at satire usually have humorous elements in them. Since that crucial aspect was absent here--painfully so--your error in judgment is completely understandable.

At first read of the title on TT, I said "You have got to be f*&^ing kidding me, and then I saw it was from the subcomandante...lol!

(bowing to kudos, cringing from MT1973's stinging rebuke)
These were more like fake news pieces with a satirical bent than "har har" humor. The point Bob hoped to convey was that Barbaro-mania has reached a fevered pitch, and that maybe a dead horse is not really worthy of drivel like this from Maryjean Wall of the Miami Herald.
A sampling of the hilarious, over-the-top eulogy:
If only we’d had more time with you. You were beautiful. You were brave. You were the best.
You enriched us all, in the nanosecond that you flashed across our universe.
You caught the magic. You shared that spell with us.
Like all superior athletes, you lifted us above the world of the mundane into the universe of the gifted.
We soared with you.
Putting aside her penchant for goofy purple prose, the writer takes up more space in the paper with this nonsense than 99.9% of all human being who merit an obituary.
Hello, world? BARBARO WAS JUST A HORSE!
(Bob goes back to his bottle of Stolichnaya and a stale bag of Cheetoes he found behind a couch at the Cherry Street Mission)
