Maple Sugaring Festival - Stranahan Arboretum Maple Sugaring Festival - The Maple Sugaring Festival of the Stranahan Arboretum of the University of Toledo returns on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 & 3, from 12 noon to 5 pm each day.

At a cost of $5 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under, and $3 for seniors, visitors will see the many aspects of this ancient North American activity, presented in an entertaining and educational way.

The arboretum is located on Sylvania Ave, between Cory/Whiteford and Holland-Sylvania. Visitors will ride the free UT shuttle to and from the site, with parking at both Whiteford Elementary on Whiteford Rd, and Stranahan Elementary on Holland-Sylvania. Signs will be posted to direct traffic to these shuttle sites.

We tap our trees, boil the sweet sap down in the Native American, pioneer and modern fashions, offer both biology and astronomy science activities to understand how trees move water uphill and respond to seasonal change.

Exhibitors include demos in crafts like blacksmithing, metal work, beadwork, candlemaking, water color painting, papermaking, and historic displays including a civil war re-inactment, muzzle-loaders, and knapping of arrow heads. Visitors can learn to make a fire with flint, play old-fashioned pioneer and native American games, and how to dance the Virginia Reel.

For food lovers, there are maple cooking demonstrations each day, plus a maple bake sale and vendors with barbecue sandwiches and funnel cakes with maple syrup. Locally produced maple syrup will also be for sale.

With our heated tent and many activities, we can guarantee an entire afternoon of fun.

For more information on where to park, a complete list of activities and our partners, etc, see our web site, or contact the Stranahan Arboretum at either 419-841-1007 or sstutze@pop3.utoledo.edu. Our web site, with a complete list of activities, maps, etc is www.arboretum.utoledo.edu.
