Toledo Talk get together? - Since Toledo Talk seems like a close-knit group, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to have a get together?

What a frightening thought! And I don't yet have body armor.

So is a shoal of piranha, but I wouldn't want to go swimming with them.

Anyway, who'd want to hold a gathering in that hell-hole?

Hey, if Guinness is on tap, the place has met all of my requirements.

Probably never agree on an establishment. The conservatives would meet somewhere on the right bank of the Maumee River, while liberals would hang out on the left side. Which is which, depends upon how you're facing the river. So mass confusion, for sure.

Would have to compromise by taking a Maumee River dinner cruise aboard the Sandpiper. That way if people get out of hand, they get tossed overboard.

The Libertarians, then, would show up in Waterville, and the Socialists in Genoa.

The anarchists would go so far left that they rounded the world and ended up in a bar across the street from the Libertarians.

With Chaz utterly convinced that he'll be subject to assault or something, it's clear that a get-together is not a good idea. People who are afraid, do foolish things, and we don't need to place poor fools into that position.

I'm pretty sure I don't need to see TolremApan either. I avoid the "I got mine" type by reflex.

There are lots of dating sites, etc. Maybe you should search some of them? And tight knit? Oh come now. For one thing. At least one or two posters on here have more than one i.d., deliberately pretending to be several different people/posters. And there are too many unanswered questions about this site, too many strange goings on. To put up an expensive site like this one and then post mostly items that someone, say, in another state could have culled from the local media, but not items, for the most part, that the average Lucas County resident is really interested in, is very strange [look for 2 or 3 to jump on now and over-emotionally object... I don't care in advance, those are facts]. Too much creepy stuff goes on, like trying to make "personal connections" when a legitimate poster simply wants to post an opinion. My personal "unfavorite" - the pretend 12-year-old or gradeschooler who supposedly wanted to discuss school uniforms (on an adult site that no gradeschooler I know is even aware exists... again, oh come now). The creepy adult who pulled that one doesn't know too many grade schoolers or he would know that NONE of them spend their spare time on political posting sites - ever, at all. I've seen that trick at other posting sites. It should have alarmed the webmaster here, but didn't appear to. A kind of dead giveaway.

Yeah, by all means, the guy with several fake i.d.'s on here should definitely have a get together with his alter egos. Ha ha.

How do you know said person is actually a guy? (smirk).

Just curious.

"At least one or two posters on here have more than one i.d., deliberately pretending to be several different people/posters."

Do you have proof of this behavior? I'd be interested. The person I know that was posting as two different people back in February was obvious to me, and it's the one you mentioned in your comment above. The double-posting was done by posting as his logged-in account and posting as 'Guest.' Checking the log files and seeing the same IP address for comments that were pretending to be from two different people, verified my suspicions. The 'Guest' account no longer exists, and I communicated via e-mail to the person that was doing this.

A user can only create one account per e-mail address. So yes, technically a user can create another alias with a different e-mail address. I could go the IP address-checking route, but I don't plan to. So I don't have a 100% fullproof solution in place. I don't think it's necessary. Plus, there has been only one example of the multi-personality posting abuse that I'm aware of. Again, if you have more examples of this behavior, let me know.

You know, edie, you made a strange accusation about this site on March 7. I gave an explaination, and I never heard from you. What gives?

"And there are too many unanswered questions about this site, too many strange goings on."

Like what?

To take your comments seriously, it would make sense if you stated your unanswered questions and mentioned what the strange goings on are.

"To put up an expensive site like this one ..."

Uh, where did you get that idea? See, you're making unfounded statements.

It costs $9.95 a month to host this website. It started in January 2003. Add in domain name registration and renewal, and you'll see that I've spent a little over $300 thus far on this site. I don't call that expensive. It's my own money. Sorry, no secret conglomerate involved here. Just a computer programmer/environmentalist whacko.

"... and then post mostly items that someone, say, in another state could have culled from the local media, but not items, for the most part, that the average Lucas County resident is really interested in, is very strange."

What?

The occasional national or international story is fine here, especially when it can be commented on about how it affects this area. Posts concerning the entire state of Ohio obviously affects Toledo too. You're aware of that, edie. At times, I post technology and sports stories because those interest me. And I don't see anything wrong with the occasional light-hearted post that has nothing to do with much of anything.

Are you actually looking at this website? Here are the last 20 posts and the area specifically concerned with the post:

Can the City Make Utilities Lower? (Toledo)
Market demands regionalism (NW OH and SE MI)
UT Spends More Money (obvious)
Officer specializes in bullying advice (NW OH)
Toledo: Penny Wise, Dollar Foolish (obvious)
Prisons Going Smoke-Free (Ohio)

Ohio coal plant agrees to cut pollution (obvious)
COSI becomes a sandbox for Cleveland sculptor

I'd say 16 out of the last 20 posts are directly related to this area. Do you see something to the contrary? Look at the last 100 or so posts and note how many are related to this region? Even the update on the NHL lockout applies to this area, since there are lot of Red Wing fans around here.

So what's the problem, edie? If you think there's something from the local area that should be discussed here, why don't you post it?

And if you don't like a front page post, is it possible that you could simply ignore it?

I think jr's doing a great job here, although guests who demean others (GuestZe.) make it more difficult. The topics are current and appropriate. My only complaint is against those who call others bad names, or critize without posting evidence to back up their position. Demeaning others is immature and reflects poorly upon the character of the author (GuestZe..). At any rate, my reference above was a joke. Some people just can't take one, eh? In reality, I would have no real objection to partying with others who post or react here.
