Sylvania Fireworks - Much to my surprise, its already starting to get packed over here for the fireworks tonight...if by some chance you're planning to head out, you may want to take that into consideration.

I live just down from Centennial Terrace and made the mistake of coming home my usual way...lots of traffic, the 4 way stop I normally pass through had a line that was probably close to a mile long. Yikes! And its only 6 pm...the fireworks aren't even until dusk. (The parking lot at Centennial Terrace and at the VFW appear to be nearly full, BTW.)

Never realized that people start lining up so early just to see a fireworks display!

They're great fireworks out there, but I just can't tolerate the traffic. The last time the family and I did the Centennial fireworks we got home more than an hour after they were over, and it's normally a 10-minute drive for us.

For us, it's Sylvania CC; you don't have to be a member (I'm not), the golf course setting is neat, the fireworks are very nice, and we're home in five minutes.

I believe it! The first year we moved out here, my husband and I were surprised to see a steady stream of headlights creeping along Mitchaw for at least 45 minutes after the fireworks ended. We knew after that to warn any guests who might come over to watch the fireworks to plan to hang out for awhile afterwards until the traffic dies down.

I would never fight the traffic to drive out here for them (not with 2 toddlers in the car!), but its an enjoyable show when all you have to do is step out in your yard for a near front row seat. :)

So where's my invite, LOL?

LOL. By 8:30 pm, the area was packed...I couldn't figure out where all the cars were planning to go. If you were going to head out this way, you would have had to be here much earlier!

(Looked like the VFW made a killing though...$5 to park, plus they appeared to be grilling hot dogs, etc. for sale. Their lot was nearly full by 6 pm. Bet it was a heck of a fundraiser for them!)

If I happen to end up at any TT outings before next year and see you there, I'll let you know where to go for a good seat (with less of the traffic hassle). ;)

The fireworks ended maybe 5 minutes ago, and Mitchaw is already bumper to bumper headlights as far as the eye can see...I'd hate to be sitting with little ones in that traffic. :0

Here's a couple of pics I took at the Sylvania fireworks; we were at a friend's house near Little Road:

BTW - I posted this an hour ago, and Mitchaw is still bumper to bumper. Yikes!

P.S. Nice pics historymike!

Wow the traffic!!! We went out to Swantons fireworks (very good show BTW), dropped my mom off in Berkey - and got completely held up thru Sylvania. From Brint and Mitchaw to Centenial & Sylvania took just as long as the rest of our trip home. Crazy I don't know how you people can handle it out there...
Hope everyone has a safe Holiday!

You must have passed right by my house. lol

I'll tell you how I handle it...on the night of the fireworks, I don't leave the house! We go out in the yard and watch them with our kids and whatever friends happen to stop by. Then everyone hangs out until the traffic is long gone.

A nit, but worth noting. It is an American Legion Post, not a VFW.

The fireworks are a plus/minus for the area. Traffic is a pain, but show is good and reputation for Sylvania is good.

Feedback from my family and friends who went, I cheated and watched from my backyard, were that the fireworks were realy good this year, but the music wasn't. The Lee Greenwood song "Proud to Be An American" had become a standard, and it wasn't played this year. Plus Louie Armstrong's "It's a Wonderful World" is more of a soft reflective song, than a celebratory fireworks song.

And finally - Mom2, your mother lives in Berkey, I was born and raised in Richfield Township - email me and see if we know each other from a former life :)

We went to the quarry last night and waited in line to pay $5.00 to get in after paying $3.00 to park. It was crowded but ok once we got in. I would much rather sit in my yard, grill dogs, and watch the fireworks, but most of us don't have that luxury. The quarry had Bonkers playing until midnight, so if you didn't have little ones you could stay and wait for the traffic to lessen, which is what we did. Other than lines for everything; food, restroom, beer, etc., it was fun and you could almost reach out and touch the fireworks. (The best I've ever seen)

That's okay...sometimes I wish my house was a few miles over and thus in Berkey. The property taxes would be so much better. ;)

Mom,

You are right now the street from me, I live in Centennial Farms - not an empty parking spot in the sub-division.

Berkey might be a little lower on property tax, but Evergreen has a school income tax and Berkey does have their water issues. All in all though, north western Lucas county is a good place to call home.
