New version of Toledo Talk

Topics with comments by "holland"

That's a wrap on Toledo Talk v1.0 - Commenting will be allowed on existing topics here for another week. This app served its purpose for 4.5 years, but I think a little more functionality is needed now, and the new version of Toledo Talk will provide that. I've been using the new version for quite a while. Some aspects of the new version may be confusing for some because of the wiki capabilities, but in other ways, it may be simpler to use.

Why I hate unions - I cant speak for any one else, but my opinions are forged by personal experience by me and my family members. There are a lot of folks out here like Jeepbm who take exception to my issues with unions, not that I really care, but at least let me take the time to explain how I came to feel this way - seeing as how both my parents were union members: - More>>

Michigan following Ohio to a state-wide smoking ban. - I'm curious as to how Lucas County bar and restaurant owners feel about the possibility. Will it help business? Or does the nanny state syndrome make it worthy to appose smoking bans everywhere?

In need of some quiet R&R. - All of our vacations in recent years have either been NASCAR or treks (Europe, Middle East, South America, China). The treks were great but tiring. NASCAR is short and can be tiring. What I desperately need is a quiet cottage rental where the fishing (row boat style) is good. What's out there within a days drive or less? Primitive is not only OK, but preferred. Running water and inside "facilities" are the only basics we would want - cable TV, phone service, internet, not wanted.

Looking for fresh milk - I don't mean from the store or the fridge either.
As a kid I remember visiting my Uncle in the country and we always took empty bottles with us because we would always visit a local dairy and get milk fresh from the tap, the cream rosle to the top (it was pasturized). So, does anybody here know where one can buy milk directly from the dairy?

Best cell phone service in Toledo??? - I am looking for comments from all of you that have an opinion for the best wireless/cell service in Toledo. I currently have Sprint which is good but I just think you get better deals when you switch service providers and with # portability you don't have to worry about getting a new number everytime. So let me know your thoughts on phone service (reception, clarity, dropped calls etc.), customer service, phone selection etc...anything you care to share. - More>>

There is a lot of weight behind this story. I called both organizations today to ask why Paul was being excluded. One allowed the phone to continue ringing and the other had a busy signal the entire evening. Convenient.

Bassett Market Closes - Business is business, and if a business needs to close for economic reasons, that's understandable. BUT, when an employing business is so insensitive that it does not give employees adequate notice so that they may transition with some preparation and instead thinks nothing of disrupting the lives of families, I say never shop at any business that the owners of that business may otherwise have in other locations or may open in the future.

Why not let art students paint fire hydrants? - My friend & I went antiquing last weekend, near Lansing, Mich. and we noticed what they're doing with their fire hydrants. There was a man painting one to look like a dalmnation dog, others had been all painted differently & many were so wonderfully done, whimsical, patriotic, artsy, etc. I thought that it may be a neat idea for Toledo to do something like that - but to open it up to high school art students, give each student a hydrant to paint as they pleased (with approval of course). What do you think?

No maple whirly seeds this year - I have a couple maple trees and a swimming pool. Typically in the spring, the maple seeds are troublesome because they end up clogging up the filter. I recently noticed that there were no seeds this year. Is this a problem with my trees or is this a weather-related phenomenon?
