Old Line Republican warns America, police state - 2nd republican in 3 days to "Paul Revere" to us that the neocons are going to allow or create a terrorist attack. Keep in mind these are the folks that believe they should make biblical prophecy come true, the battle to end all battles, the return of Jesus, the end of 99.999999999999% of mankind. War with Iran, and using the constitution, referred to as a "g-damned piece of paper" as toitee paper. Of course they have a 150 "graduates" of Pat Robertsons "law school" to help pave the way.
These are the guards at Jonestown, who gave the choice of a bullet, or a nice drink of Kool Aid.

I Did Something Cool Today... - I have family in town from CA and was trying to line up things to fill each day while they're here. My sister-in-law had been on the internet and had come across the website for the "Motown Museum" in Detroit. I have to admit that the idea didn't overwhelm me at first but I try to stay open to new things so...
Let me tell you, I'm so glad I went. I grew up listening to CKLW in the 60's and Motown was king in those days. To see the actual studios and realize that so many hits came from such a run down, dumpy little place, and most of the stars came from within a 5-mile radius of the studios was most impressive. Equally as impressive was Berry Gordy's story. He built that entire empire from nothing...starting with an $800 loan from his family. He ended up selling it all 30 years later for over $160 million.
The tour guide was outstanding, telling us the known, little-known, and, to me, previously unknown historical bits and pieces.
I would recommend this to any of you who grew up with this music. The tour takes no more than an hour and is modestly priced. Check out their website at MOTOWNMUSEUM.ORG.

Dirty Politics???? - This is a really interesting and usual political story that is beginning to unravel. About a week ago, Monclova Road Baptist Church sought approval from the Lucas County Planning Commission for a special use permit to build a brand-new 15 million dollar building. Well, the Planning Commission surprisingly voted against recommending approval by a 4-3 vote. The fours votes opposing were by Gerken, Konop, Wozniak, and County Engineer Keith Early. The other members in favor are appointed to their positions. One member is supposed to have said after the meeting, “The church got hammered.” The vote was a complete shock due to the fact that the professional staff of the Planning Commission recommended approval, which basically guarantees safe passage. Their vote is non-binding, but carries significant weight. The Monclova Trustees will make the ultimate decision, but virtually always follows the Planning Commission. - More>>

Strippers at local political fund-raiser - "A golf outing for the Lucas County Democratic Party landed in the rough after outraged elected officials saw strippers liberally volunteering at the party's annual fund-raiser. Domenic Montalto, the executive director, initially pleaded ignorance. But after learning of Mr. Kemp's comments about the strip clubs' participation, Mr. Montalto changed his answer to "No comment." Ohio Makes #1 Again! - Ah, #1 in FORECLOSURES, of course. Along with Indiana and Michigan, Ohio helps round out 20% of the nation's foreclosures, whereas those states only have 6% of the nation's mortgages. I wonder if the foreclosure rate has anything to do with a LACK of prosperous and steady jobs for citizens, and of course another LACK of affordable home prices in light of the prevailing economic conditions? - More>>

PayPal Account Hacked! How in the hell? - OK, All you techie types, can any one explain how someone can hack into your PayPal account? I got what I thought was a phishing email late last nite that my password had been changed followed by a confirmation email from a company called VisionScripts that I could now download the software I purchased. I went to PayPal, through a new browser window, and after some difficulty because now I didn't know the password, to my great surprise there was an unauthorized purchase transaction from VisionScripts. Not a lot of money involved - $34.99 but wow, the implications. I did all the things you would expect. Reported the transaction as unauthorized and PayPal quite promptly cancelled it. Closed the credit card tied to Paypal (there were no other bogus transactions). Changed my password again with PayPal and other security stuff. Went to all the password sites I use for both business and personal - over 70 - and changed all my passwords. What a pain in the neck. This PayPal password was a "stand alone". It used it only for PayPal. One other individual had access to it, my spouse. He can barely email, let alone buy software on the net. So what would you all do now if you were me? Dump PayPal and forget about ebay? Start over with a new credit card and PayPal? Help me out here.

Rent a Church? - I believe the Lord has called me to start a church. I would like to rent a building or meeting space in the area but I have a limited budget. So, I've been trying places like community centers and local organizations. My current need is only for one morning a week. As the church body and space and time requirements grow, I would be more then willing to increase my monthly rent. - More>>

Glass City Beer Fest - Friday, March 09, 2007 at the Erie Street Market from 5:00-11:00 p.m. Good to see that my favorite brewery, Bell's, will be there. "This is an inaugural event. We hope to reach 500-1000 adults ages 21-60. Tickets will cost $25 pre-purchase; $30 at the door. There is a “hero” discount ticket of $20 for all military, police, and firefighters. [12] tickets will be included with admission. Each ticket will allow for a taste not to exceed 3 ounces. Additional tickets will be available for $1.00 each. Food will be sold separately. A wide array of music will be played by a DJ from 5:00-11:00 pm. Also may be live music. All proceeds benefit the Northwest Ohio Hemophilia Foundation and The Arc of Lucas County." - More>>

The Presidential $1 Coin Program - "The United States is honoring our Nation’s presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served, beginning with Presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison in 2007. The United States Mint will mint and issue four Presidential $1 Coins per year. The new $1 coins were to go into circulation on Thursday, just before next week's President's Day celebrations. This time the Mint has taken a new approach to designing the coins as well as promoted them with the retailers, banks and transit systems that will play the biggest role in making the coins circulate effectively."

City liable for Accidents? - My daughter was injured the other night in a car accident. She was traveling west on Dorr Street, approaching Detroit. She had the Green light, a car that was stopped (I believe she said stopped) was going east quickly turned in front of her, she hit her breaks, she missed that car but hit the car that followed behind it, a police car. Head on collision. He did not have his lights or sirens on. The accident investigator came to take my daughters statement in the hospital, he made no mention of citations issued. When I asked about it, he stated none were going to be issued, but that his report would state that the officer was at fault. - More>>
