kids opening firehydrants to cool off... who do i call about this? - is there a specific city agency in charge of coming to open hydrants and closing them? i know it's not an emergency, but with the hydrants blowing our water pressure is dead. any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Toledo Meeting in Second Life - There was a post a while back about Second Life and possible having people from Toledo meeting there for fun. I just installed it tonight, and a little confused over it's concept. It's a nifty world of sorts, but not sure how to get off "Orientation Island" no way to specify a server or meeting place.

lucas count "art assist" program - im curious to see what people think about this. long story short, there are now low interest loans for purchasing art available to people in lucas county. i see this as benefiting artists, galleries and the community as a whole. what do you think?

Advice needed - I've finally gotten with the times and sprung for an MP.3 device. My daughter is bugging me to fill it with music but I am a bit overwhelmed in finding the best source. My question to all of you is- Where is the best place to download music? Are there any safe, free websites for this? Where do you all go for yours?

GARBAGE! PERIOD. - GARBAGE. This smells to high heaven, starting with the 21 st floor of Government Center. Who asked the residents if they wanted to contribute to the Mayor's budget by eliminating their garbage pick up for a week? And then to be fined because they either didn't get the memo or thought twice about placing a week's worth of garbage back in the house or garage.
Why doesn't this Mayor think ahead two or three steps. For $4 or less, they could have chosen to pay a ransom to cover the lousy $40,000 for pure sanitary reasons. As unfair as that idea sounds, people of consciousness may place health over a piddling amount of savings.
This kind of patchwork, spur of the moment, strike one neighborhood to save an entire city a few bucks is just what it smells like "GARBAGE."
What kind of reaction would he have if the fourth landed on his street? Is a day without water much behind to pay for his budget shortcomings/garbage is as garbage does.

In need of some quiet R&R. - All of our vacations in recent years have either been NASCAR or treks (Europe, Middle East, South America, China). The treks were great but tiring. NASCAR is short and can be tiring. What I desperately need is a quiet cottage rental where the fishing (row boat style) is good. What's out there within a days drive or less? Primitive is not only OK, but preferred. Running water and inside "facilities" are the only basics we would want - cable TV, phone service, internet, not wanted.

Poor Toledo Edison/First Energy Service? - How many of you are unhappy with the service from Toledo Edison? Their crew was out several months ago and told me they had to cut down a tree because it was ready to topple on a power line. No one ever showed up and 4 non-returned phone calls later I still have not gotten a follow up. This concerns me because I remember the VERY inconvenient power outages due to poor maintenance we have had since 2001. I just wondered if this poor response was typical?

Best cell phone service in Toledo??? - I am looking for comments from all of you that have an opinion for the best wireless/cell service in Toledo. I currently have Sprint which is good but I just think you get better deals when you switch service providers and with # portability you don't have to worry about getting a new number everytime. So let me know your thoughts on phone service (reception, clarity, dropped calls etc.), customer service, phone selection etc...anything you care to share. - More>>

Bassett Market Closes - Business is business, and if a business needs to close for economic reasons, that's understandable. BUT, when an employing business is so insensitive that it does not give employees adequate notice so that they may transition with some preparation and instead thinks nothing of disrupting the lives of families, I say never shop at any business that the owners of that business may otherwise have in other locations or may open in the future.

Deluge and usual street flooding - Heavy rain pounded West Toledo between 1:40 and 1:50 p.m. The yards and streets are littered with small limbs, twigs, leaves, and other tree debris. The storm had some wind, but I think it was the massive volume of rain that exfoliated the trees. The rain came down so hard and reduced visibility so much that it was tough to see past the neighbor's house. It's a good thing the storm was as short as it was. Still, flooded streets exist. I made a quick check near our home, and Sylvania at DeVeaux and Douglas near Laskey are flooded, as expected. - More>>
