Seeking Dog Help - I bought a pooch from the Tiffin pound about 3 or so weeks ago. At first he seemed really love able and good. Though my girlfriend and I are at wits end, trying to figure out what to do. This is really my first dog and I love him, but I dont want to have to give him up without at least trying my best first. - More>>

Welcome to the real world of the common man, Mr. Finkbeiner - http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070106/NEWS03/70106037Those of us who have visited our loved ones in jail/prison, know that it is common place to be treated the way Mr. Finkbeiner was treated. Why does he think that just because he is the mayor, he gets to change the rules. Jails and prisons have very, very strict rules about visitation. If you don't arrive within the window of check in, you lose. You shouldn't be allowed to pop in whenever you want even if you're the mayor. Most of us drive many, many miles, Mr. Mayor. We all get turned away if we're late. The reason doesn't matter. Get over yourself.

Why is my use of obscenity a problem when our President and VP use dirty words too? - So Dick Cheney said "go f--k yourself" to a Senator on the floor of the Senate, and Bush can use the s-word to describe Hezbollah's actions to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, but people on this board criticize my mouth? What the f--k? And let's not forget how the FCC's got a hard-on for penalizing anyone for anything they deem obscene. Y'all impeached Clinton for getting a b--wj-b in the Oval Office, because extramarital sexual acts are bad, getting them in the Oval Office is worse, and it's super double plus wrong to lie about it. Why aren't you impeaching Bush and Cheney for their potty mouths? If you're prepared to accept this behavior from your elected leaders, then why criticize ME? And if you're not prepared to accept it from them, then you ought to be punishing THEM "pour encourager les autres". - More>>

Who the heck would hire Paul Harvey for a radio spot? - Have you heard the new Taylor Cadillac commercials with Paul Harvey(I am pretty sure it is him)? Storm of the Century (or at least the summer) - I pray that EVERYONE is alright and free from physical injury. Homes can be rebuilt, but no one can recover from death. My husband (a TARPS driver) saw many stalled vehicles on Reynolds (Angola & Airport), Westwood, Nebraska, Upton & Central, and Monroe & Douglas during his last hour on the clock transporting clients. He saw TWICE as much as he returned home in the Ford Ranger (and to think we considered selling it...NOT!). He marveled at this example of God's power while observing man's idiocy (i.e. cars being driven 40 or so miles per hour, folks not looking where they are going). As for me and our daughter, the picture of joy and gratitude could be found at our cul-de-sac home when we opened the door as he pulled into the driveway.

Counter Protest - Is anyone interested in counter protesting the NW Ohio Peace Coalition? Their website tells where they will be each Sunday afternoon. All we would need to do is make a few signs and carry some U.S. flags across the street to let people know that our troops DO have support and these anti-war people are NOT the majority. Let me know!

Cost of merging U. of Toledo, medical university keeps rising - The cost of merging the University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio could reach $30 million, more than earlier projections, officials said. Dr. Lloyd Jacobs, president of the medical school, said in November that merging the two institutions would result in $20 million in transition costs over a three-year period. - More>>

Fat tax on soda pop - "Delegates at the powerful American Medical Association's annual conference will demand a levy on the sweeteners put in sugary drinks to pay for a massive public health education campaign." Well, it's about time. How about banning the sale of junk food? Smoking bans, sin taxes on tobacco sales, all this has to happen next with junk food. Why not a cheeseburger tax to help fund public schools? "Some U.S. cities and states already levy taxes on soft drinks or junk foods." - More>>

Figuring out Toledo's neighborhoods - I am a 38 y/o single healthcare professional about to relocate to Toledo. Any pointers about how to figure out where to buy a house? It's a GREAT city indeed but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the layout or locations. Most of the cities I have lived in (Kansas City, New Orleans, Atlanta etal) have more definitive boundaries...yuppies over here, old established native families isolate over there, new money in another section, the rapidly transferring corporate set in another definitive section, and so on... I always like to buy a house whereas I can redo the kitchen and baths to a very high standard and not lose my shirt when I sell, my mom is an architect and ingrained fine baths and kitchens in our heads... Really liked parts of Old West End but more than one person "warned" me against it though I met a nice six-figure yuppy lady at the hospital who owns a house there and loves it. Advise??? THX...

Red Fire Hydrants? - Okay.... Has anyone recently drove down Heatherdowns near Swan Creek Park? Today, I noticed that some of the fire hydrants were not red and white, while the look much nicer than the green and white, How much is this going to cost to repaint each and every hydrant in the city of Toledo? What was wrong with the green and white? I am sure there are plenty of other things that the City could spend their money on... like new roads, more beautification, etc. What does everyone think about this topic?

Outsourcing political commentary - A couple of changes have been made to the site. Due to a few recent questionable front page postings and my inability to monitor the site as much, all new front page postings will go into a moderation queue. So new topics will take a while to appear. This moderation step will last for a week or two. But on a more permanent basis, no more political topics will be allowed at Toledo Talk, specifically political topics about people. Discussing issues and levies will still be permitted, but the human-side of politics is out. Here are some sites to go to for political discussions: - More>>

Brian Wilson is ruining WSPD - I haven't seen much posted on this topic recently, and I don't know if it is because people don't care or people just don't know how crooked and awful the leadership is at our talk radio station.
Through a variety of emails and phone calls to various people in the complex, I have found out a few things that people might not know about the "changes" that happened in the programming lineup. When Wilson was brought in to Toledo, he made a deal that the only way he would come would be if they made his wife News Director. Unfortunately, there was already a highly talented news director, Mr. Tom Watkins. This didn't matter to Mr. Wilson, who told a variety of people in his FIRST WEEK that Watkins would be fired because he was TOO OLD! Sounds like discrimination to me. Then Fred began spending every morning in Wilson's office while Bob Frantz's show (which Fred was supposed to be producing) was on the air. Fred began to tell a variety of lies about Bob's performance, eventually leading the way (along with Wilson's enormous ego) to Bob being taken off mornings.
It has to be hard for a genius like Wilson to see that Bob has now moved on to a much higher market at a better-run station. It is always odd when someone isn't good enough for Cleveland but is good enough for Cleveland. Something smells fishy.
You may wonder why I care so much. I have lived in Toledo for 43 years, and WSPD has been my station of choice for most of that time. As a result, I emailed Wilson about my concerns, and this was the response I received.
