Excessive Fireworks Displays by Amateurs - I realize that this subject is not on par with the Great Democratic Party Stripper Scandal, but does anyone else have a problem with idiot neighbors whose fireworks displays are too extreme? - More>>

In need of some quiet R&R. - All of our vacations in recent years have either been NASCAR or treks (Europe, Middle East, South America, China). The treks were great but tiring. NASCAR is short and can be tiring. What I desperately need is a quiet cottage rental where the fishing (row boat style) is good. What's out there within a days drive or less? Primitive is not only OK, but preferred. Running water and inside "facilities" are the only basics we would want - cable TV, phone service, internet, not wanted.

Kelley's Island - I recently returned from Put in Bay and was wondering about Kelly's Island and how it compares to PiB. Does Kelly's have a lot to see and do? Is it family oriented? I've visited the website but would to hear from someone who's been there. Is it worth my time?

MonroeTalks.com - I know some of you that participate on ToledoTalk are from Monroe County. This site was just launched for Monroe County, MI to talk about things going on, post pictures and share/view events happening. Maybe not yet as cool as Toledo Talk, but it is pretty slick! - More>>

No maple whirly seeds this year - I have a couple maple trees and a swimming pool. Typically in the spring, the maple seeds are troublesome because they end up clogging up the filter. I recently noticed that there were no seeds this year. Is this a problem with my trees or is this a weather-related phenomenon?

Rental cars - A rather ludicrous TV commercial for AVIS RENT A CAR shows a man with black hair, wearing a white shirt, acting like he's driving a car that's equipped with GPS tracking. The background scenery is whizzing by like the guy is tooling down the road about 60 mph (probably a movie screen). That's not so bad but...take notice of the steering column. There is no key in the ignition switch. LOL!

Crime rate down - TPD is reporting a huge drop in crime across the board in Toledo. Knowing the city's current decline in population/economic woes/ on-going bad press, I'm curious... do you think these numbers are real? Carty has been known to fudge the numbers (Erie Street Market) before. - More>>

'Insights Into A Lively Downtown' - "Kirk Westphal, a recent graduate of the University of Michigan's Master of Urban Planning program, examines what makes a downtown district appealing in this 19-minute documentary." I received an e-mail from Kirk, and he wanted to know: "I'm looking to get in touch with downtown Toledo citizen advocates or merchant groups. I'm a nonprofit urban planning consultant in Ann Arbor, fresh out of academia, and I'm looking to work with downtowns in the region who are open to using progressive methods to engage the community and revitalize the downtown." - More>>

We always end up at the same place though... Anyone know any good places to go with Music (jukebox or live) where we can all kick back?

'Toledo Budget has $10.6 Million Deficit' - "Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner sent city council his 2007 budget proposal just before Wednesday's deadline expired. Many on council are unhappy with a huge budget deficit to deal with, but a spokesman for the mayor says it will take a combination of "budget cuts and revenue enhancements" to close the gap."
