At least one state seems to have it right - The following is a letter received by one of my colleagues who has a son at the University of Idaho. She receives one of these “Friday Letters” every week. This week, we felt it was particularly fitting, given the current climate at UT and the state of Ohio’s failure to give education the priority status it deserves. My colleague says she’s appreciative of all of these letters because they give her an idea about what’s going on with the university in general. A recent snowstorm prompted a letter thanking the maintenance crews for their quick work in clearing everything so classes could continue. Yes, it’s their job, but demonstrating appreciation is always a good thing. I’m interesting in hearing what other people think, both about what the Idaho governor is doing and about this type of communication in general. As the parent of a UT student, I can say without ...
