Southwyck and The Shops at Fallen Timbers - Anyone heard the latest on these two projects? Are they moving forward? Last I heard Southwyck was just a blueprint of what it could be and Fallen Timbers was moving ground. I was just out to Monclova over the weekend and didn't see much progress.

Hackett out of Senate race - Getting back to local or statewide politics now, what's up with this? "Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett says he won't be running for a US Senate seat from Ohio. Hackett tells the New York Times for a story today that the same Democratic leaders who urged him to run after his sensational political debut in a House race last year have turned on him. Hackett says those leaders asked him to withdraw so Ohio Congressman Sherrod Brown could run against Republican Senator Mike Dewine."

Red Ink Studios - I heard this story on Michigan Radio this morning about how a business investing in artists in the San Francisco area has expanded into Flint, Michigan. Flint. After the dotcom bubble burst, this business made use of its office space by allowing artists to use it for free. The artists would also show their work for sale, and this other business would get a piece of that action. Red Ink Studios believes in using art to help revitalize an area's economy. They chose Flint because of the problems that city has had with the auto industry scaling back there over the years.

U.S. Has Royalty Plan to Give Windfall to Oil Companies - Based on the administration figures, the government will give up more than $7 billion in payments between now and 2011. The companies are expected to get the largess, known as royalty relief, even though the administration assumes that oil prices will remain above $50 a barrel throughout that period.

GM announcements - I'm not sure if this affects the possible Toledo Powertrain expansion or not. Maybe that announcement is still coming. But ... "The Wall Street Journal is reporting that officials from General Motors and the state of Michigan will make an announcement about the fate of five of the carmaker's plants later today. The WSJ reports that it expects General Motors to announce a $500 million initiative designed to upgrade two Michigan assembly plants, a pair of powertrain facilities, and a stamping factory." On NPR news this morning, the Flint plant was not mentioned, and Flint was supposedly in competition with Toledo's Powertrain. And the news said all five plants being upgraded were in Michigan.

Old School - Hello. I was born in Toledo in 1948, and lived there till 1971. I'm a graduate of Scott High School, University of Toledo, and Ohio State. I no longer have any relatives in Toledo. I now live in southern california. I was appalled reading about the riots a while back. Things sure seem to have changed since I lived there. Are there any otherv 40 or 50 year olds on this board?
