Will Smokefree's proposal get removed from ballot? - My research indicates that the the law being proposed by SFO was deficient in clearing the first hurdle on it's way to possible approval. Here's the timeline of events:

Outsourcing political commentary - A couple of changes have been made to the site. Due to a few recent questionable front page postings and my inability to monitor the site as much, all new front page postings will go into a moderation queue. So new topics will take a while to appear. This moderation step will last for a week or two. But on a more permanent basis, no more political topics will be allowed at Toledo Talk, specifically political topics about people. Discussing issues and levies will still be permitted, but the human-side of politics is out. Here are some sites to go to for political discussions:

Soliciting for a smoking ban - Well the Amer. Cancer Society had their signature getters out this weekend. I ran into them in the parking lot of the Springfield Meadows Target. I politely refused to sign the petition but then I thought about it and decided to inform the Target management they had solicitors on their property because I felt that since I couldn't solicit on Target property for Toys for Tots then they shouldn't be allowed to solicit to prevent Ohioans from taking part in a perfectly legal action.

Sensible Ohio Smoking Ban moves forward - Last week small adult destination business across Ohio started collecting signatures for a sensible smoking ban throughout the state. This sensible legislation is modeled after the Toledo law we modified in 2004. The law will permit open smoking in taverns, nightclubs, bowling centers and private clubs. It allows restaurants to construct separately vented smoking areas for their customers who choose to smoke. We need to collect over 300,000 signatures to get this issue on November's ballot.

Military dismisses more homosexuals - I saw this and it caught my eye because when I was on active duty I had dealt with this same problem.

Coffee, Anyone? - Would anyone care to get together and discuss current events in a peaceful, small group environment? Maybe at a coffee shop? Let me know if there is interest. This wouldn't be anything organized, except a time and place. Quite frankly, we wouldn't even have to discuss current events, but instead it could just be people who are interested in current events hanging out. Any interest???

JEEP WORKING MEMBERS /// THE LAST SRAW // - Some have been threaten, some have been ridiculed, but all of us realize if not for this message board we would have an outlet to discuss happenings throughout the plants.
That said I would like to offer an explanation as to why I feel things have gone so far a rye.
One- HISTORY the Jeep United way funds how it was handled during and after the scandal. I don't believe there ever was a detailed response as to what happened, why it happened, and how we were going to prevent such a thing from happening in the future by our union officials.
Two- what changes have actually been made in regards to communication to the workforce since these terrible shootings? Not much, the chairman is making his promised visits in the plants that I have seen (please correct me if I'm wrong I do like Dan). The ... - More>>

Ottawa Hills PD - Racially motivated? - Why is it that when an Officer has to 'convince' a civilian to follow orders, someone starts screaming that it was racially motivated?
Ms. Brown failed the 'attitude test' right from the start, and now it's because she's black? Of course, it had NOTHING to do with her having an attitude, or throwing the ticket out the window (littering) or refusing to step out of the vehicle as instructed.
Like good old Rodney King, she would have been MUCH better off if she would have followed Ofc. Deters orders.
Racially motivated? Gimme a stinkin' break!
Abide by the law, follow Officer Friendly's instructions and you'll have NO cause to scream 'Racial Prejudice'!!!!!!!!!!!

The Case for Ben Konop - I am a frequent reader of, and infrequent poster to, this site. My first post was several weeks ago in which I defended Ben Konop's candidacy for County Commissioner. I did so as a proud Republican.

Is there any way to stop the outflow of American jobs? - What can we as American Citizens do to reverse the tide of outsourcing and job loss in America. Are there government policies that are actually encouraging these developments? It's at the point where white collar, and blue collar people, will have to band together to save ourselves from the ravenous beast known as global capitalism. Is this beast beginning to devour the very bedrock upon which it was built, and heedless of the consequences, destroying America's ability to provide for it's citizens. Let's find some answers together. http://www.nytimes.com/pages/opinion/index.html

Hypocrisy Abounds in Senate Vote - I thought the Democrats stood for education, teachers, a cleaner environment, rural development, and an increase in the minimum wage? Aren't those their main issues? I thought they fought for the 'little guy', the teacher, the farmer, the minimum wage worker???

Strippers at local political fund-raiser - "A golf outing for the Lucas County Democratic Party landed in the rough after outraged elected officials saw strippers liberally volunteering at the party's annual fund-raiser. Domenic Montalto, the executive director, initially pleaded ignorance. But after learning of Mr. Kemp's comments about the strip clubs' participation, Mr. Montalto changed his answer to "No comment." Why it is hard to know who to vote for! - This is in no way, shape, or form politically motivated. I usually vote Republican, but I also like to give candidates from other parties a chance to persuade me to vote for them. Who knows, maybe they will be better than the Republican candidate.

Ohio #1 in Job Losses - The 217,000 jobs that vanished from all of Ohio's goods-producing industries between 1997 and last year -- along with their $9.3 billion in average annual wages -- were the biggest losses of any state in the nation. The state's 15.7 percent decline in total average annual wages also ranked Ohio dead last.

On Bringing Back The Draft... - I see old Charlie 'oil can harry' Rangel is raising hell with the old chestnut of the draft once again-although we all know it's nothing but a political ploy, I personally think the way he's layed it out would be an excellent idea. He says that everyone should have to do some sort of service for the country, not necessarily combat or military service. I like the hell out of that. Having to do work in Battered women's shelters, homeless shelters, drug rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, etc; if you don't want to serve in the military. It would perhaps teach the spoiled brats we have today (it's far too late for the 'boomers) something about sacrifice and how the other side lives. I'd really like to see everybody have to go through basic training too, but this idea of his will never fly, as we're far too spoiled and selfish ...

Did John Kerry give up the farm to the GOP? - The conservatives were hot on the issue of this comment from Sen. Kerry ... "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Dictatorial Blade Unions DESTROY members' health benefits! - The Toledo Council of Newspaper Unions have IGNORED a vote by their own membership that had authorized a $7.xx/shift contribution for the health care trust fund. The unions' leadership failed (deliberately?) to followup to have the company deduct the desperately needed contribution.

MARCY KAPTUR VOTES AGAINST PATRIOT ACT!!! - YOU CERTAINLY KNOW THE BLADE WOULDN'T PUT THIS ONE THE FRONT PAGE, BUT OUR CONGRESSWOMAN THAT COMPARES OUR FOUNDING FATHERS TO TERRORISTS IS ONCE AGAIN TURNING A BLIND EYE TO NATIONAL SECURITY. THIS WAS EVEN AFTER SEVERAL AMENDMENTS THAT ADRESS THE LUDACRIS LIBRARY RECORD ARGUMENT. I'M GLAD MARCY KAPTUR IS WORKING SO HARD TO KEEP AMERICA SAFE...CRAZY!!! SHE WOULD RATHER PUT POLITICS OVER NATIONAL SECURITY

Public School Funding - Considering the financial mess of Northwest Ohio's public schools, why don't we demand that EVERY candidate running for statewide office make a public committment to address this issue as the number 1 priority of their next term in office? Isn't 10 plus years of an unconstitutional system long enough?

GOP update - If the Democrats don't at least take control of the House after November's election, they should disband as a party. The Republicans are handing control of the House and maybe the Senate to the Democrats. Let's look at the latest boxscore.

Counter Protest - Is anyone interested in counter protesting the NW Ohio Peace Coalition? Their website tells where they will be each Sunday afternoon. All we would need to do is make a few signs and carry some U.S. flags across the street to let people know that our troops DO have support and these anti-war people are NOT the majority. Let me know!
