2008 Glass City Beer Festival - ?

I thought I remember someone sending me a link or something that the event was happening this year. Now that I sit down to look it up, I can't find anything on it. I've sent emails to the foundation that proceeds went to last year (Hemophilia foundation of Northwest Ohio), and haven't heard back.
Can anyone confirm if this is going on in 2008? It's coming up - I would guess they would want to start promoting it.

Thanks!

The Toledo Talk posting for the 2007 Glass City Beer Fest contains a link for http://www.glasscitybeerfest.com but that site does not mention the 2008 event.

Last year's event was listed at doToledo.org, but I could not find a listing for the 2008 event.

Great. Stay tuned for all the new "wrong way" driving accidents. Great idea. What next?

And nobody drinks beer at a Mud Hens game, right? Over 60 home Mud Hens games each year. How much beer is consumed during the game and then at bars and restaurants before and after the game?

posted by jr on Jan 31, 2008 at 05:00:06 pm     #

I re-read my post and didn't see anything about me defending or even mentioning a mudhens game.

My point is that until someone can better control the idiots that cannot control themselves, every event that serves beer should be re-evaluated.

Last year's Glass City Beer Fest was the first one and maybe the last one. The Mud Hens have existed for more than one year. tommy1, if you're so concerned about beer drinkers, have you been leading the cause to ban or at least re-evaluate beer sales at the Mud Hens stadium?

tommy1, I also re-read your first comment in this thread, and I thought it bizarre because it had nothing to do with the topic. Instead of posting off-topic comments, start a new thread with your plan for re-evaluating beer sales and include every Catholic festival, wine tasting, restaurant, bar, sporting event, etc. that sells alcohol.

Just because it gets sold at many, many events and places, it does not mean that responsibility and accountability should not apply. Several of you got so defensive. Is that the only thing your recreation revolves around? Getting wasted? I have nothing against alcohol if used responsible by responsible people. The recent fatal tragedys should be a wake up call to everyone to take notice of people who cannot control themselves and to get involved in preventing any further tragedys. If you enjoy alcohol and notice someone who is headed towards doing something stupid, step in and help. You could be saving a life. And whether or not my posts had anything to do with the topic or not, it got your attention. Didn't it?

tommy1, your asinine thinking is text pollution. That's what got my attention. You didn't say anything intelligent.

"Great. Stay tuned for all the new "wrong way" driving accidents. Great idea. What next?"

"Several of you got so defensive. Is that the only thing your recreation revolves around? Getting wasted?"

"Now, I know that the majority of Toledoens are working class union members that require little or no education ..."

Oh, wait, that last tommy1 comment with the misspelled "Toledoan" was from another thread. Maybe that's how they spell "Toledoan" in Spain.

Several got defensive? tommy1, I'm the only one wasting time reacting to your lame-brain comments.

My recreation is getting wasted? tommy1, are you even on the correct Web site? I just made a posting about all the plays scheduled this month in the area. You know, live theatre. Have you heard of live theatre? And I posted about a fun groundhog day celebration in a suburb. Those are my kind of recreation events. Your recreation is delusional thinking.

tommy1, your irrational, knee-jerk comments imply that everyone attending a beer festival gets wasted and drives the wrong way on the road. Good luck with your version of reality.

The 2nd annual Glass City Beer Fest is for people who like the taste of real beer and not that pisswater that's mass-advertised on TV and radio. Bell's Brewery has been my brewery of choice for a long while now. What happened to their "Hell Hath no Fury" beer last fall?

"until someone can better control the idiots that cannot control themselves"

WOW - perfect response, no personal responsibility, no call to fully enforce existing laws, simply wait for "someone" IE government - to "control" the people.

I hardly drink alcohol at all, and can't stand the taste of most beer , so won't be going, therefore don't have to worry about getting schnockered.

Who are you TheAssHoleLawer? Karyn McConnell?

I'm still laughing at the defending of the beer fest as a "real beer" tasting event and not another excuse for idiots to drink. Please spare me the preaching. Let's take a field trip into any local watering hole and give me 5 seconds to point out the idiots. As far as wanting someone to police the idiots goes, give me the authority and I'll do it. Until then, get the ones who have the authority to do their job.

Wow! I love how these discussions take such a huge turn.

These beer tastings have a pricey ticket, to keep the common crazy beer drinkers out. So they turn out to be a mild calm event, with mostly responsible drinkers taste testing beer. I'm sure some will go to get smashed, but beer tasting events are more for sampling good beer.

With that said, Thanks Bobby for the info - is it posted on any websites yet? Looking for a press release or something.. thanks.

Ummm....yeah, right. You mean like the German-American Festival? LOL I went ONCE-to pacify the boozing woman I was dating at the time-and swore never again. I can't understand how the cops don't make more money than they do. Having said that, I realize fully that there are exceptions to the rule.

posted by Darkseid on Feb 01, 2008 at 12:11:18 pm     #

Um, the German American Festival is far from a pricey ticket or a beer tasting event. I am pretty sure they won't be serving out of buckets at the Glass City one.

Good point, robg, about the cost of entry into the beer festival featuring microbrews, which is not the same thing as wandering into a local watering hole for free. It's an invalid comparison to equate the Rodeo Bar with a one-day-a-year beer festival featuring beers that most drunkards have never heard of and would be afraid to try.

From the 2007 Glass City Beer Fest : "Tickets will cost $25 pre-purchase; $30 at the door."

tommy1's pals can buy a lot of cheap, junk beer for $25 to $30, which is why they wouldn't attend a beer festival. The beer festival is designed for snobs, which is about time, since Toledo already has a ton of other events the cater to those with no taste for brew.

GlassCityBeerFest.com has not updated their Web site with info about the 2008 event. And it's not listed on the March 7, 2008 page at doToledo.org.

The event, however, is listed at BeerFestivals.org.

March 7 [2008]: Glass City Beerfest
Location: Erie Street Market, Toledo, OH
Highlights: More than 60 hand-crafted beers by regional breweries; live music.; proceeds benefit the Northwest Ohio Hemophilia Foundation and The Arc of Lucas County.

The event is also listed at The Arc of Lucas County Web site :

Glass City Beer Fest 2008

Mark you calendars for Friday March 7, 2008

2007 Beer Fest was wonderful! Over 650 people attended to enjoy more than 60 hand-crafted beers from the region and music provided by 56DAZE. We thank all of the volunteers and the Beer fest Committee without whom the event could not have happened.

A comment the day after last year's event :

I am one of the event creators, and I am happy to answer any questions people had regarding the event! To report on last night, we sold around 700 tickets and had at least 800 people (including volunteers) through our doors at one time or another. Several of the breweries had a brewmaster or at least a representative in attendance to answer questions, by state law, they were not allowed to pour beer...but again, several were in attendance to talk about their beers. Additionally, I think we had a decent mix of large and small breweries, but I am very open to suggestions for next year. I am an executive directors for one of the charities that the proceeds benefited. With all of the funding cuts from United Way and other community sources, we were looking for a fun and unique (for Toledo) event. I hope everyone that attended had a good time. Both non-profit organizations greatly appreciate the support we received...both in attendance and all of the positive comments we heard from brewery reps, volunteers, and those who purchased tickets. March your calendars for March of 08!

A beer-fest with no drunks? What type of bizzaro world event is that? Another story for Barbara Hendel to blow smoke for all of her snob friends.

posted by tommy1 on Feb 01, 2008 at 01:07:58 pm     #

Man some people on this board need to relax...this event if anything is a way to introduce regional microbreweries to our city. There are some amazing brewers making great beers and the event provides an opportunity to sample some new and unique recipes. As a hobby brewer it is a chance to meet the makers of these unique beers. By no means is it a throw down get shit faced party and if you do have to many you should be responsible and get a cab or have a dd.

So-what I'm hearing here is, it's high-priced to keep the filthy, vile scum known as blue-collar people away? And that should be a good thing? And that there are no white-collar or yuppie drunks/alcoholics? BWWwwAAaaaHHhhAAAaa!!

Dude - seek medical attention for your pissy attitude towards everything. I mean, really. Try to enjoy your time on planet Earth.

Do a quick review of your posts, you are miserable.

Ryan - Dude. Get used to it. He is so miserable he thinks he is happy. He would not know happiness if it hit him.

You should see how this guy smokes, too. He claims it is good for you.

Should be mandated behavior for schoolchildren. Sick, Sick.

"DUDES" (how gay you sound)-I enjoy myself and am very happy, as long as I'm not around scum like you(Ryan and El Macho Comacho). Enjoy your booze.

Oh...at NO TIME did I EVER say I thought smoking (or drinking ) was good for anyone. It's only the 'secondhand' hysteria/lies/horseshit I get upset about. Schoolkids should be forced to smoke? Never even SAW that on TT.You're not only a Fucking LIAR, you're totally ridiculous.
