Tue, Feb 26, 2008
- At 2:00 a.m., looks like around two inches of snow has accumulated so far. It's an amazingly picturesque snow. Everything right down to the tiniest twig contains a mound of snow. Temps are around freezing, so it's a wet snow. Little to no wind, so the snow is allowed to stick to and pile up on everything. Quite a scene. Hopefully, winds hold off until after daybreak in order to snap photos of the powder-sugar-covered landscape. We don't get this kind of snowfall very often.
- Weather conditions :
- Toledo Metcalf Airport 2:24 a.m. - Light snow mist, 32, E-NE 6mph
- Toledo Express Airport 1:52 a.m. - Snow and freezing fog, 31, NE 7mp
- 2:40 a.m. - I can't get over how everything is covered with snow. The bends of the shepherd's hooks, the little ropes holding the small hanging tray feeders, the rim of the basketball hoop and its net, the spiraea bushes, old plant stubble, wires, twigs at the end of tree branches, all contain a half inch of snow or more. If the winds increase, it will knock the snow off and ruin the photo op. And apparently, a chance of rain exists overnight now. No rain, please.
- 4:50 a.m. - Still snowing. I measured snow depth a few minutes ago, and 3.5 inches of wet, sticky, slippery snow has accumulated here in West Toledo. The NWS called for 1 to 2 inches overnight while AccuWeather predicted 3.5 inches. The scenery is even more dramatic than earlier. Tiny twigs have over an inch of snow accumulation.
- 6:30 a.m. - Measured 4.25 inches of snow.
- 8:39 a.m. - ODOT road cams show area roads to be mostly clear to clear and wet.
- 8:40 a.m. - The landscape looks impressive in the daylight with the sticky snow piled on everything.
- 10:20 a.m. - Measured 5.5 inches of snow.
- 12:50 p.m. - Temps in mid to upper 30's. Around 6 inches of snow on ground. Unless the snow picks up this afternoon and this evening, the 8 to 12 inches of total accumulation forecast by the NWS seems enthusiastic. AccuWeather has been more accurate thus far with forecasting snowfall amounts.
- Weather conditions :
- Toledo Metcalf Airport 12:53 p.m. - Light snow, 34, N 12mph
- Toledo Express Airport 12:52 p.m. - Light snow, fog/mist, 33, N 14mph
Wed, Feb 27, 2008
- 5:30 a.m. - temp in West Toledo is 12 F.
- 5:50 a.m. - snow depth in West Toledo is 4.5 to 5.0 inches. Total snowfall was around 6 inches, but temps in the mid-30's during most of the day on Tuesday caused some melting of the snow.

Snow can be treacherous to drive on but it has a beneficial effect on bringing up the lake levels once it melts. Another aspect is adding moisture to agricultural fields.
