MoreThanRhetoric: Blogger posts for no reason other than to promote himself

Blogger, MoreThanRhetoric, has posted a new link on ToledoTalk, a northwest Ohio blog, to promote his own name. There is no real value to the content of his post - in essence it is blatant commercialism. When questioned, MTR stated that he felt he had contributed a great deal via his post and was only interested in educating the community about issues already beat to death by this, and other media.

For more information about MTR and his views on many over-publicized or irrelevant topics, stay tuned for his next advertisement- oops, post.

Unfortunately, the blatantly self-promoting poster who is the subject of MoreThanRhetoric's wicked satire will probably miss the connection.

Now, as someone who understands the value of a healthy-but-tasteful amount of self-promotion, I understand the temptation to use a site like Toledo Talk as a traffic-driving vehicle. However, posts that point to one's own website will be much better received if they are balanced with regular participation in the site's dialogue, as opposedto a 10:1 ratio of site pimpery versus non-pimpng comments.

Besides, it is much better form to include a short link like this: "I have more about comprehensive doctoral exams and widgets at this post" than it is to regularly pimp your site with post-level headlines. It's kind of like the difference between passing out a business card at trade show and standing at the microphone to crow for an hour about one's accomplishments.
