Humane Ohio a Great Place, but under appreciated

I just took one of my cats to get spayed at Humane Ohio on Secor Avenue in Toledo. It is a great place that offers spaying and neutering for both dogs and cats at great rates and even more affordable for those who are on welfare or senior citizens.
What shocked me about the people who were there with their pets was the reluctance to help the place out. It only cost me $45 to have my cat spayed. A vet office will charge anywhere from $85 and up depending on age and weight. As I was paying, the employee asked if I would like to donate $1 to Humane Ohio and I said, "Of course". I figured that giving the extra dollar wouldn't break my bank and be able to help them out even if it was only a buck. My surprise and shock came from the fact that while I waited to turn in my paperwork and money, how many people did not donate the lousy $1.
I can not understand how an organization that offers discounted rates for a necessity to pet owners could be ignored when asking for a lousy $1. The shame of it is that while vets donate their time to do the spaying and neutering and this is a non-profit organization, if they were not able to continue doing the services they provide, many people and pets would suffer.
Maybe I am being a little sensitive, but I like to help people and organizations that help people.
Here's a link to their site http://www.humaneohio.org/
and here's their phone number 419-266-5607

and please give the extra dollar. Thanks.

I am familiar with Humane Ohio and they do a wonderful job. I am also familiar with the public at large and sadly a good chunk of them only think about themselves.

And a dollar can go a long way in the right hands. Unicef has a program going on now that if you eat out this week if you donate a buck for a glass of tap water they will take it overseas and that gives 40 children clean water for a day!!!!! Isn’t that amazing? I always donate to things and almost feel guilty because I personally get such a great feeling by doing so.

Try it people, you might like it.

may i make a suggestion to the folks at humane ohio? Send a simple letter asking for a donation to local unions, and you just may be surprised, i know many unions that donate to charitable entities. Its worth a shot!

If you'll CONTACT Lee Crock at www.edkuniversity.com and talk to him He may donate a "energy cleaner" to you for free! Just look at all it can do at www.universalenergycenter.com/section4.html

Remember the thoroughbred that they tried to save then "Killed it"?? last year?? Well, it really could have been saved"! and you can spread out the screens to help a lot of animals not just one! and while not useing it on the animals it can be used to cure "PEOPLE"! God bless..........jac

Hi everyone! I am the outreach manager for Humane Ohio and one of our volunteers told us about this discussion. I really appreciate the comments and support. You can visit our website at www.humaneohio.org to check out our prices. Please keep in mind that these are our base prices and we try to work with anyone who can’t afford these, which is why we do ask for donations. Every $1 really does count :)

TS: thanks for the idea about unions. We have tried that in the past and did get a few but of course it always helps if you work through someone who belongs to the union. If you know anyone who belongs, please let us know.

We really appreciate everyone’s help and hope you will call us if you ever need a dog or cat fixed. We run different promotions with even further reduced rates most of the year, so be sure to check the website for information about those. Right now we're doing a Beat the Heat promotion for female cats.

Thanks!
