Campaign funds

If a candidate for any office receives campaign contributions, drops out, and still has some campaign money left, does he get to keep it? Does it count as taxable income?

Using campaign funds for personal use is unlawful, but just what is "personal use" is not that simple.

I don't know, but finding an answer might provide some insight as to why Giuliani and Thompson ran such anemic campaigns. . . I'd like to spend the winter in Florida at someone else's expense, but I guess I'll have to wait until I run for President and call it my "Florida strategy".
