Weird Irony

Anybody who could shoot or kill a cat could probably be capable of other despicable things, and not anybody I'd want to know. Speaks volumes about somebody's character that they could even talk about killing an animal. Those people frighten the hell out of me.

Hmmmm. Ironic.

And speaking of education FatBabe44, why don't you get your right-to-life head out of your ass and get some education about a subject before you proselytize? And oh yeah, can't you stick to the subject of the post without seeing the entire world through the myopic right-to-life lens?

What is your problem? Perhaps you aren't familiar with irony or maybe you are just a douche bag.

She also seems to presume that all unwanted pregnancies are because people copulated without birth control No birth control is 100 percent effective - I know at least five or six women who got pregnant while using different forms of birth control.

What!? Please point out where I ever said/typed that statement.

I just tell you this so the next time you would like to wax snarky about animal welfare groups and contrast them with we terrible pro-choice people in some off-topic tangent, you won't look quite so damn silly, because you'll at least have your facts straight

jmleong- I was aware of PETA's euthenics but didn't feel that being so damn literal would fit in with my snarky comment to make a point. Duh.

I really do find it interesting (in a sociological dynamic kind of way)that so many people always get so riled up at anyone(me) just because they believe in "no-kill shelters" for babies. Wow. Weird.

You folks make WAY too many assumptions about me, my character, my level of education, and personal beliefs based on one opinion of mine on one subject. God, I'd hate to think of you ever being someone in a seat of power or making laws. The tone is chillingly similar to discrimination or racism. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I make too big of an assumption on your character by saying that?

Well my fellow Americans, I gotta go get my head out of my ass now. It's been a pleasure as always.

My comments were simply based upon other threads you spoke out about this before. My memory isn't perfect by a long shot, but I do recall the heated remarks, and I believe you did imply a while ago, much of what posters commented about this 'go-round'. That said, I never implied anything about your education or intelligence - that would be presumptuous of me, and I don't doubt you have a high level of both. I do remember your admission of not having any kids or adopting any though - so yes, I think it's a bit unfair of you to make blanket assumptions about other women's decisions to abort, or not. It's easy to talk the talk if you've never walked the walk. I believe that for most women, abortion is a last resort decision that doesn't come easily or without remorse (most, not all).

At any rate - you seem upset, but you were the one who dragged up the abortion issue when the topic was about stray cats. You were the one to toss the ball out, as it were, and people do remember previous threads & what was said.

If it's any consolation, I've never killed a cat nor had an abortion, although I do consider myself somewhat morally inferior to most people... stupid reverse psychology classes in catholic schools.

"I was aware of PETA's euthenics but didn't feel that being so damn literal would fit in with my snarky comment to make a point. Duh."

Duh?

So you posted something contrary to the facts you know to be true in order to make a point? Said point being, of course, a tangential relationship between your own agenda and some other subject at hand?

Well, duh indeed. Because I sort of don't get that, you're right.

And the only assumption I made was that you don't know jack about PETA, based on what you posted about them saving kitties or whatever. It was a reasonable conclusion.

That's right, feed the fire. You're giving it attention, which is what it feeds on.

Deliberately off topic: jmleong, how've you been? How's business? I miss the place. I may be in town for a short visit in a few weeks, so I'll try to get over for lunch or something.

People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along? Can we get along? Can we stop making it, making it horrible for the older people and the kids?...It’s just not right. It’s not right. It’s not, it’s not going to change anything. We’ll, we’ll get our justice....Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we’re all stuck here for a while. Let’s try to work it out

Excerpts on Rodney King from teh wikipedias:

He was arrested again for spousal assault in 1999. In 2001, he was then ordered to undergo a year of drug treatment after pleading guilty to three counts of being under the influence of PCP and one of indecent exposure.9

On August 27, 2003, he was arrested again on similar charges as in 1991. It is alleged that King was speeding, ran a red light while under the influence of alcohol, failed to yield to police officers, and then slammed his SUV into a house, breaking his pelvis.10

LOL.

I saw my dog kill a squirrel the other day and I cried over it.

I don't like it when the squirrels eat all the bird seed that I put out. They are kind of a nuisance, but I love them because they are one of God's creatures and besides they are cute and have those cute little furry tails. Sometimes they will even eat a nut out of your hand, but still, they are a rodent and can carry diseases.

Did you know that wild Oak trees depend on squirrels for their survival?

I watched a nature show once that talked about a specific type of pine tree out west and one species of squirrel that depend on each other for survival. I think it was the Kaibab Squirrel. (I had to google it for the details).

Here's what I found after Googling:
Tassel-eared squirrels’ livelihood is intimately connected to the Ponderosa Pine for food and shelter. These shy, tree-dwelling squirrels serve an important role in the health of Ponderosa forests. Ponderosa Pines have a symbiotic association with a specialized fungus interwoven with its roots. This fungus absorbs water and minerals from the soil and produces growth stimulants, all utilized by the trees; the pine in turn provides sugars for itself and the fungus via photosynthesis, a mutually beneficial trade-off. The fungus produces underground fruiting bodies called false truffles which are thoroughly enjoyed by the tassel-eared squirrels, who subsequently help spread fungal spores throughout the forest as they defecate.

Fascinating!

My point of this story and it's relevance? If I need to spell it out for you, I will, but I'm hoping you can catch on by yourself.

fatbabe- birds carry diseases as well (I mean, if you're going to be paranoid about it). I feed the birds & squirrels both - why does one deserve food & the other does not? Both are hungry. We had a woodchuck in our backyard for a couple of days a while back & it was fun watching him eat the squirrel food. Everybody said woodchucks are nuisances - but he was so cute (and gone now). My mom feeds birds but not squirrels & I argue with her about this - does me no good though.

1. PETA is a bunch of goofy whackjobs.
2. People eating animals is natural, we are part of the food chain, thankfully, at the top.

3. My personal opinion, (and we all know about opinions) Anyone who says they know 5 or 6 people who got pregnant while using birth control is either exaggerating, outright lying, or they have been told less than all the facts by those people.

jeepmaker - I do know that many women who got pregnant while using birth control, believe it, or not. Granted, that number is spread over many years - but it's possible, was my point. NO birth control is 100 percent effective. That 1 percent failure rate accounts for pregnancies. Some of these women were on differnent forms of the pill. One woman missed a day on the pill -voila, pregnant. Another woman - the condom broke. Another woman - the sponge flipped & ended up side-ways. If you don't believe it's possible for birth control to fail, you are naive or ignorant. I've told my kids to never trust one form of birth control - to always use two at the same time (condom/foam, etc.). I find it interesting, that you call me either a lier or misinformed. What I've found to be true, more often than not, it is usually the woman who takes responsiblity for birth control - or men who expect her to. Not always, but often enough. Men also seem to be a little ignorant of the ugly details like failure rates as well. I believe, that on every package of birth control, it does mention the possible failure rate. Covers Big Pharma's ass in a lawsuit. It happens.

I got pregnant on birth control...twice.

Actually, with my second child, I was also still exclusively breastfeeding my first child in addition to using birth control. (Breastfeeding is also supposed to provide some protection.)

It all worked out fine for us in the end. My husband and I planned on having kids eventually...we just didn't expect to have them so early in our marriage. And we DEFINITELY didn't expect to have 2 kids less than a year apart. lol

(And obviously, we changed to a permanent form of birth control after the 2nd one. First time the birth control failed, I thought it was a fluke. Turns out after further investigation, there were scientific reasons for why it failed in my particular case, but I won't bore you with all the details.) :)
