At first I was like “No way could someone have sex with a table, that’s impossible”. So I read the article and it explained how he did it. Makes perfect sense to me now.
I found myself puzzled as well before reading the article. All of my questions are answered. This is journalism at its finest. I hope WTOL wins a Peabody for this.

The news story did not say if the table was under-aged or if the sex was consensual. Shoddy journalism.

WTOL 11 is reporting at 11 that the charges against this dufus are being dropped. They say that the Huron County Prosecutor is reviewing the charges related to the school because students may not have been present when he was making nicey nice to his picnic table.
God help us all . . . .
As much as I find this idiot's behavior disturbing, I thought that the felony count seemed like a stretch (pun only partially intended). There is a considerable difference between lewd behavior in front of children and lewd behavior where children potentially might be able to see.
The first involves actual victims, while the second involves hypothetical victims. By the second definition, a person might be guilty of a felony by leaving the curtains open while involved in an amorous encounter in one's own home.
Charge the guy with the appropriate misdemeanor, and send the table off for therapy.

What I find disturbing is that the person who made dvds of the incident had to make 3 dvds before turning it in-what is wrong with that person? Personally, I would think 1 dvd sufficient evidence.
