TARTA questions/help

I'm about to become a first time TARTA customer. (Live in Sylvania, work downtown. Don't really care to continue spending $50+ a week in gas just to get back and forth to work. Buying a monthly bus pass will save me at least $200 a month, not to mention saving the wear and tear on my vehicle.)

Anyhow, my experience with public transportation is pretty limited...just riding subways while on vacation. I've never really used a bus system before.

Anyone have any pointers on navigating TARTA? Seems like they have many routes that depart near my residence...I'm just having trouble deciding which one would work best. The route maps and info on TARTA's website are a little confusing...I'm fine with understanding the outlying routes, but "the loop" downtown is looks a little confusing. Probably looks worse on paper than it actually is in person, but I'm still a little intimidated to try navigating it for the first time!

Does TARTA provide assistance to help a confused rider figure out which route is best to take? (Either someone you can call, or even just asking the bus driver for help.) Anyone have any pointers?

Thanks for your help. :)

there's their site, and thru it, you can find either an email or a contact number you can call.

I'd suggest the email - you can tell them where you live and where you're going and they'll get back with you as to what you'd need to do.

Also look into the park and ride links - I checked quick for you, and there are three places in Sylvania you could drive to and catch the bus from there (Centennial Terrace, Meyers on Central, and a church).

These park and ride's may actually have a direct bus that goes in the mornings straight down town with no stops.

I'd checked into it myself pretty extensively, but right now they dont have what I need, because the bus to take me home leaves at ten min TILL the hour, so I'd have to get up and leave my desk about 25 till the hour to make the bus, and Im sure that wouldnt be popular with my co-workers every day, OR stay 40 min over each day to catch the next one (which I just might end up doing)

I also went to the nearest park and ride to me, and asked a lady who was getting off the bus some questions, and she loves it. She drive from Bedford to Miracle Mile every day, and just leaves her car there. She says she's never had or heard of anyone having their cars tampered with while in that shopping center.

Thanks billy.

I invested in a bus pass for the month of May, and we'll see how it goes from there.

After seeing all the gas station this afternoon with $3.63 a gallon gas, I feel pretty good about the decision to spent $40 on a bus pass! Even if there end up being a few minor inconveniences, it still has to be better than spending insane amounts of money on gas to get back and forth to work.
