I was looking at the garage/moving/church sales for South Toledo, and the thought occured to me "I'll map these, and try to find the most efficient way to go from one to another". Then the thought occurred: "Maybe someone has already done that". I searched, and didn't find it. Maybe someone (maybe I) could do a "mashup" showing the location of sales. Or maybe the electronic version of The Blade could start doing it. I think it would be a public service for those, like myself, who like to go to several garage sales in an area. Anyone have any other "little ideas" that they would like to see implemented to make their life easier?

I think I've found something. It's called "Mapbuilder", and it allows you to put "pins" with locations and descriptions of sales. I am logged as Toledomaps so you might be able to find the map I did for sales in South Toledo. This is something the Blade could easily do, and it would really add value for those who like to do garage/estate/moving sales.

It took me about an hour and a half to learn to do it, and input the data. There are tutorials (including film clips) that get you up to speed pretty quickly.

I got this idea from the newspaper in Bowling Green, KY which is using "Mapbuilder" along with data they send from their newspaper to make "mashups" of Google and Yahoo maps, and "classifieds" about garage sales.

There is some interest in maps of garage sales. I have had 146 "hits" so far since the posting about 01:00 Sunday morning. I have ideas for a few others.

I could only find two garage sale mapping mashups. They both seem to pull from craigslist in our area. The first is www.weekendtreasure.com and the other is gsalr.com. Only weekendtreasure.com display any sales for me though.
