Did I Hear Correctly....????

Is my dream coming true?? Did I hear correctly that Sonic (America's Drive-In)is coming to the Toledo area??

To be built in Rossford by August??

After a year of seeing those mouth watering commercials for a different type of fast food, am I really going to be tasting those new 99 cent shakes.

(And there goes my vacation trip to an Indiana Sonic, to try their Extra-Long Chili Cheese Coney. lol)

There is a story in the blade about it.

IMHO: Sonic is the best. My wife is from Central Il, and when we go to visit her family, we allways stop at the sonic in mattoon, il atleast once a trip.

Thanks for the link.

Wow, if he plans to build more in the Toledo area, I sure hope he thinks of Oregon. I would love to see new eateries in that area.

Point Place could use one only option currently is McDonald's worm-burgers. In fact there is a lot of space on the summit strip just across the bridge, empty store fronts in the strip mall and a empty building that was a marine sales place. Rudy's hot dog is there and Family Affair moved to the strip mall.

I ate there (just) once in Florida. Try the Diarrhea Dogs.

I saw that yesterday, and about time they got up there. Granted down here they are on every street corner for the most part, being just outside OKC where they are headquartered.

It will be interested how the drinks are there. Since people will be new and not really know much on how to mix the various flavors. At least you can get your drink anyway you want it...Ocean Water Cream Slush - yum. The chicken strip dinner or sandwich is what I normally go for. Also...always get tots, screw the french fries. :)

Another business that will go down in tubes in three years.

Not extremely impressed. I've stopped at several through the south. They do have a nice eat in the car niche and a wide menu.

I'd love one in Point Place...I really like the cheeseburgers at Family Affair (with tater tots and how many places do you know of these days that still offer tater tots?) but it'd be nice to have something different.

And that location could also pull from Erie and Luna Pier...

My 25 yr old daughter wanted to try Sonic so bad, that her & her friends made a very long car drive to find one - and were hugely disappointed. She said it was horrible, and a waste of time, gas & money.

The food's marginal. The shake isn't a real milkshake; it's soft ice creme briefly run through a blender. The staff doesn't know the difference.

Like any fast food, I think it comes down to the staff that runs the specific store. Quality obviously improves at a newer store and in an area that isn't all that poor.

Why anyone would drive far to eat at any fast food place is just retarded though. LOL

My daughter & her friends were also searching out old cemetaries to take photos - they called it a 'road trip' & had fun doing it. But yes, the search to find a Sonic (they knew where it was) was a main focus of the trip. They said the food sucked.

Hey Justasooner - before high gas prices and casinos I used to reguarly make the trip to Windsor to a great fish restaurant. Now - Forgeddaboutit. They tore it down to make way for a casino, immigration for US citizens is ugly on the Canadian side and the cost of gas is more than the cost of a nice meal with a couple of drinks.

No, it was all a dream....now go back to sleep.

Sounds malnutritious!

At least investors are getting hosed.

These are the basic requirements to own a SONIC franchise:

* The term of a SONIC franchise is 20 years, plus a 10-year renewal.
* The franchise fee is $45,000, with a total initial investment ranging from $710,000 to $2.3 million.
* You must have prior or current successful restaurant experience and/or strong entrepreneurial skills.
* Royalty fees are 4 to 5 percent; advertising fees are 5.9 percent.
* Financial Requirements Are:

Liquidity Net Worth
2 Stores $1,000,000 $1,000,000
3 Stores $1,500,000 $1,500,000
5+ Stores $2,000,000 $2,000,000

Holland...I would image there was a bit of a difference between Sonic and your fish place. :)

Charlatan...always the positive one. But yeah...lot of up front cash, but they don't seem to do too badly.

I prefer skeptical, but one man's ontology is another's solipsism.
I'd like to see the potential sales and ROI. In places like northern California, there seems to be less restaurants. The real estate is so pricey that you can't recoup millions on $2 burgers. Especially from people a little more in tune with their health.
