The basis of modern medicine is the brutally incomplete "Germ Thoery of Disease" attributed some 1,000 years ago to this guy:

And later westernized by Bechamp, Pasteur, Fracastoro....Avicenna lived to 57 as a Persian in Iran. So maybe he was on to something.
I agree sanitation was a huge advancement in medicine.
The fact that sanitation and infection is still a problem in medical procedures, speaks volumes about the competency of health care practices and the professionals employing them. Have they any pride in their work?

Did you ever notice that when people talk about all these old folk remedies, and how great they are, and how superior they are to modern medicine, they never bring up how much shorter life expectancy was using them, or how much worse living with even simple medical conditions was.
