Foot and Roller Hockey League

Since my last post brought so much attention to the Toledo Street Hockey league, I thought that I'd try it again.

We have a very successful roller hockey league and are looking to add a foot hockey league. It will have the same basic rules as ice hockey except for wearing shoes instead of skates and using a ball instead of a puck.

The Summer League is scheduled to start August 16. Further details at our website,
www.toledostreethockey.com

Thank you for looking.

For everyone who has not played in this league i would like for you to know something. I played in the spring league and it was a great time. It was Fun, competative and was really enjoyable. I would recommend this league for anybody who has and has not ever played roller hockey. Meet new people while playing a game of organized street hockey. As i said before i really enjoyed this league and will continue to play in it. Hope to see more new teams and people in the next summer league, so get out there and form your team now.

You picked one of the hottest parks without shade trees or cross breezes in Toledo to play summer roller hockey. Especially wearing full gear mid day. It sounds like sauna hockey complete with cramping, exasperated injuries, and unnecessary circulatory stress.

I spread the word on the 1st one. No one seemed sold. If you're considering a fall roller league, I'd be more interested and I could probably find more people.

I guess if you want air-condtioned, shaded, country club playing areas, this isn't the league for you.

If you are slightly tougher than wet tissue paper then come out and play.

Seriously, we've already had some pretty hot days and survived without any of the issues you spoke of. It's not an arena, but we're trying to make it a decent place to play. By the way, it is a no contact league so full pads are not required. It is a talent and speed based league without any fighting or goon type behavior.

Actually there is shade there and plenty of water provided. I have to wear a helmet but as long as you have two lines you can get off take your helmet off, sit on the picnic table in the SHADE, sip some water, than get back out there. If your team is smart you have two goalies too.

It would almost be saying that you wouldnt go to Cedar Point because its 90 degrees out if you really loved the game

I'm a baby about gear and sweat. Not a fan of wet sanding. In the winter on the ice, I'm usually down to a tshirt, no gloves, no shin guards...

It's high sticking that I worry about. Dotted eyes and teefs are pricey commodities. Last year I got popped in the glasses by a dude losing his balance. Now, I pretty much won't play opposite of him.

The lines at Cedar Point are usually 98.2 F, anyway depending on how sardined it is. I'll only go if someone can get us past the lines.

Charlatan,
This league is a little or no contact league. When I started this league I welcomed players of all sizes and I do not want a bigger player to be able to "push" a smaller player around.
This is a talent and speed based league. There are penalties actually called for interference and roughing unlike the NHL. As far as high sticking goes, we have not had any face or head stick contact this season so far-thank goodness. While we cannot prevent every accidental incident, I can supervise the refs and players and ensure that penalties are called for such behaviors. Also, we do recommend full safety gear.
If nothing else, come out, introduce yourself and see what we have to offer. I honestly believe that the play is fast, fair, and more entertaining than the NHL.
Thanks.

Come to think of it, the day I did go by and stopped for a bit was the Sunday of the Old West End Festival. It was nasty hot and muggy. Even rotting away in the shade with a few beers wasn't too enjoyable.

It would be nice if someone just set up Ottawa Park rink for roller hockey. Then it would be useful for 8 or so months of the year instead of 3 or so.

I did check with Ottawa Park when I started this. While they did say that next summer was an option, this summer was out of the question due to them replacing the ice coils under the concrete this summer.
I am going to seek out some league sponsors later this week or next. It will not be very expensive compared to other advertising. For $150 or less, businesses will get website exposure and links, banner advertising at every game(Sat and Sun), and, if the right kind of business, such as pizza/ice cream/food, we'll go as a group and patronize the business at least twice during the summer league season.
The ultimate goal is to find a suitable location to build a rink with an all weather surface or indoor facility. That, of course, is for the future. If the league continues to grow like it already has, it could be profitable for someone willing to invest in it.

I would suggest hitting up the sporting goods stores, some of the advertisers with bigger budgets, or one of those national non-profits designed to get kids out of the house.

There was an indoor place on Holland-Sylvania where that Urban Fitness? is now a long time ago. I went there a few times. If I remember right, the floor was so slow it wasn't really dynamic or fun.

This place seems to be doing alright:
