Yard photos summer 2008

Backyard photos from July 16 and 18, 2008

My favorite Oak Openings native plant growing in our backyard is the Swamp Milkweed. The tiny, intricately-designed, sweet-smelling flowers attract a wide variety of insects, including the Monarch Butterfly. Last year, our patch of Swamp Milkweed hosted several Monarch Butterfly caterpillars.

An overcast morning on July 12, 2008 and my lack of knowledge on how to take photos in low light prevented me from capturing the colors of our backyard. I need to read the camera manual. Plenty of flowers yet to bloom. Many are Oak Openings natives.
