The body of a man was pulled from Swan Creek yesterday after a tour boat captain spotted it in the water near the Owens Corning corporate headquarters in downtown Toledo.

The man's name was being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family members.

Police retrieved a wallet with identification from the body.

The captain of the city of Toledo's Swan Creek Explorer was giving a tour when he spotted the body shortly before 2 p.m. and called 911, said Kattie Bond, the city's director of neighborhoods. She declined to give the name of the captain.

The Toledo Fire Department's water rescue unit recovered the body about 2:30 p.m.

Toledo police Sgt. Phil Toney said it appeared the man had been in the water for some time.

He was described as a white adult who was wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

Foul play was not suspected in the man's death, Sergeant Toney said, but police were awaiting the results of an autopsy to be conducted today by the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

The Swan Creek Explorer was giving a tour to children in the city's Safe Kids program, which teaches water safety to children with disabilities, Ms. Bond said.

There were about eight people on the boat - six children and two caregivers - at the time.

The children were not aware of the body in the water, she said.
